Title: One of my old chestnuts iam afraid
Post by: EHM-1838 Andrew on March 30, 2008, 06:06:34 pm
I have been asking for sometime now about some mid-range flights for Euroharmony 7cat and while i know there are some maintenance flights for cat7 747 there are none for the 747 cargo fleet. All the cargo flts for the C747 are again huge distances so how about at least some maintenance flts too for these aircraft?
I don't think i have ever used them.
cheers Andy

Andy,

There is a flight from LPPT to GCLP and back (C549 and C551) which is only 831nm GCD for the Cargo 747... Why not try that? ;)

I know you'd like to see more of these shorter flights but as Phil has said previously we want to maintain realism in our operations and real 747's don't generally get used for short hops that are more economical in smaller aircraft. The 747 is after all a long range aircraft...

Well to be honest, Short range Cargo flights in a 747 are more common in the real world than we would think (Apparently a 747 flies from EGSS to EGCC on a fairly regular basis, not sure, I think it is Dragon Air Cargo) but there are a number of projects ongoing at the moment Andy and it will be a while before this gets rectified. I guess this where we have problems when people spend vast sums of money on 3rd party aircraft like the PMDG 747, we have to try and cater for them but for now, we are strapped for time... It is on the list though Andy :)

As Dom mentioned above, the 747 is really a long range aircraft as is the A340, A380, 787 and MD11 and as such, we would like to keep these planes in the fleet with that element of realism. We will however endeavor to add the maintenance flights in for all the divisions when we get chance.

Solely for the purposes of corroborating the point of short hops for a 747 another site I am aware of has 132 scheduled flights under two hours of which 16 are under 1 hour.

Regards

William

Yes they are (or certainly should be) real world but are on a protected site the url of which I have sent by PM as it would be advertising another VA.

Hmm... Digging up an oldie of mine, think I'll have another look at the Tour of UK... I'd love to work the flight from Papa Westray to Westray into it :)

(World Record for shortest scheduled flight - has been completed in 69 seconds ;D)
