Title: The first Concorde flight
Post by: EHM-1001 Robert on October 12, 2004, 10:50:05 pm
Well,

I had to return from TNCM very fast, so I choosen the Concorde. I have to say, that the current EHB-B772 (TNCM > EGLL) flight should not be appear already in the timetable. Also the Concorde is not able to take off from TNCM, anyway I did this flight to try out the new Concorde and my skills.

Wow, the Concorde disaster is just played now on Discovery Channel...weird. :o

A typical civilian sight of the airport, at StMaarten:

I wanted to set a back wind, therefore I must turn around at the end of the runway, to take off in front of the Hotel:

Airborn, with some cheating... :$ :

Started climb to initial level over the coasts:

Reached initial FL330 over the Caribbean Sea. Strange autopilot behavior can be seen in the background:

At cruise level FL510, already in supersonic mode:

Passing Bermuda Island. Because of Mach2.0 I "ran off" the track with 10 miles in this turn:

Because of the extra northern initial route, I would not have enough fuel to finish the flight. I had to add some extra gallons near the destination... Coming over Ireland. Suddenly it got dark:

Over Shannon. Descended again to FL330 and entered subsonic mode:

I made a superb Southampton arrival. Landing was tricky because of a nasty, slow Cessna, but passengers were not in danger ;D Taxiing at Heathrow:

Shut down at Terminal4 with some BMI planes in the surrounding, at late night:

It was a good flight although it cannot be done in reality...so afterall I decided to rather not fill in a PIREP.

The PM2 concorde works fine on my computer....but I'm not a great fan. I like the old EHM conc, so I use that. My question to any of you who may know is:

Why do I have so much trouble taking off and landing because of the front sinking right into the ground, causeing the nose to hit the runway and mess up my takeoff. Is there something I can change in the CFG?? Maybe it is the suspension-LOL?

Thanks in advance.:)

Well, I do not really understnad your problem. If your Concorde is only visually sink in the ground, then you can modify it with CFG. If you think the plane have a "heavy nose" then you coulc alter the flight dynamics.

For PM2 Concorde, I advise to search for a Flight Dynamics of Pedro Oliveira. V2.7 is the latest. I have no problem flying with this dynamics, and I want to release its slightly modified version that fits to the new EuroBusiness flights.

Hi Robert, I dont quite know whether it is a visual problem or heavy nose, dont know how I would find out. Is there a line in the CFG to see?

Thanks for your reply.

Hmmm...I thought if you only see that your Concorde looks like sinking above the ground, than you should alter these lines for PM2 Concorde in the CFG file:

static_pitch= 1.0200
static_cg_height= 15.8

These constants define the vertical position of the visual model, when standing on the ground. It may vary for other versions of Concorde though.

Robert,

You are a superstar. My problem is fixed. Many apologies for not being able to describe the problem well enough, but it is fixed now, thanks to you.

Kindest regards

Your welcome ;) I have to tell you that about a year ago I had the same problem with the old Concorde, when I downloaded a brand new dynamics...I did not know why the bird is steaming 1 meter off the ground ;D

It's probably just the angle of the shot ;)

I guee I know what you think ;) The Concorde is one of the birds that have some weird viewing angles. It shows the best in a top-down view. Even the side view is not good enough ;D
