PCIE express question

Hello all
I hear a lot about PCIE express graphics cards being the best type to get.My present card is AGP.How do i find out if my computer is able to take these new cards.

If you got an AGP port you most likely doen't have a PCIexpress slot but you can check you motherbord manual if you got one you find it there.

Yeah look in your Motherboards manual or if you bought it from somewhere like Dell or it was pre built take a look inside and google up about the slots and what they look like.

AGP is a totally different standard from PCI Express or PCIE. It is a different looking slot, with different number of pins, speed, etc... If you have an AGP port on your motherboard, you will surely not have a PCIE next to it.

Unfortunately bringing in this new standard makes the PC world running forward. No more AGP in the future, only PCIE! It has a 16x speed, so it could be AGP 16x, but not. Designers decided to give some fresh blood into the graphics card market, and to grab more of your money to be up to date. In the future, you cannot place a modern graphics card into an "old" mobo. You MUST buy a new mobo if you want to keep up with the technology race.

Thanks for your thoughts guys.Iam not unhappy with my present card(a very basic radeon 9200)it  seems to me to perform pretty well,but i was just wondering about PCIE.

Apparently my motherboard has an AGP expansion card connector(obviously).But it also has Three 32-bit PCI expansion card connectors(i believe PCI is the old standard though)

PCI and PCI-Express are different things.

Graphics cards used to run on PCI, then AGP, and now PCI express.

Normal expansion cards i.e. Sound Card, Modem etc. use PCI cards. New grapics cards will only work on PCI-Express and if you have an AGP socket you will not have a PCI-Express slot.
