2006-03-30 Email confirmation functionality
« on: March 30, 2006, 12:33:44 pm »
Tonight we will be applying email address confirmation code to the new pilot signup process. This new functionality is being introduced to ensure that (a) new pilots aren't trying to "scam" an account without giving us a real email address, and (b) that the pilot is able to receive emails from EuroHarmony without a problem.

The new code is very simple, and requires nothing more of the new pilot than clicking on a URL in an email that will be sent to them as part of the "welcome pack".

Initially, this will only affect new pilots signing up to the VA, but the intention is to add some additional code to the pilot "homepage" that will permit existing pilots to confirm their email addresses; this will not happen tonight however.

And on a personal note, my thanks to Rico Allee (EHM-0641) for providing the Dutch translation of the new welcome email. Figure he wouldn't have been publicly thanked otherwise.

In a change of statement, turns out that the new code is very simple and I have added it to the pilot homepage.

We ask all pilots to log in using their pilot ID and password. On the pilot sub-menu you will find a new item "Confirm Email". Click this once and the page below will reload. You can if you wish close your browser.

Now check your registered e-mail account, within a minute or two you will receive an email that contains a URL. To confirm your email address, click that link. Once the "thank you" page has loaded, log back into you pilot homepage and you'll find that the "Confirm Email" menu item has gone.
