April Long Flight Event
« on: April 02, 2006, 04:06:45 pm »
Plenty of notice again, but I had to avoid announcing yesterday (for obvious reasons...)

End of the month (22nd or 23rd, it's up for the vote), and the start/end points will be:

Departure - VIDP (Indira Gandhi Intl, Delhi, India)
Destination - RJBB (Kansai Intl, Osaka, Japan)

It's West->East again (unfortunately, there are very few airports with long runways 3000nm to the East of Japan :)) and the GCD is a little over 3,000nm, so flight times should be similar to "part 1" from the first long event (5-6hrs).

I have a route somewhere around here (FSNav/RouteFinder gave almost identical routes). When I find it again, I'll edit the post. Having said that, there is an obvious "detour" to the route I'll be posting that will take you over Nepal, and hence the high Himalayas... up to y'all to decide if you want to fly the "short" or "long" version.

Event page/announcement/news block will be going up just as soon as I can build them all...

Good question Paolo. Saturday is better for me (we normally go shopping on Sunday morning), but otherwise there is very little consensus.

Phil, you've said you've got visitors that weekend. Given time and tide (and buttered scones), do you have a preference for day assuming you can get a long enough "gap" to get a bird into the sky?

Would delaying for a week help anyone out?

I should be able to make any time apart from Saturday before 1000Z, we do have visitors (Mother In Law!!!!! AAAAHHHHHHH|!) so I may have to check in and out and maybe fly offline for a while but this will give me an excuse to go in the other room and lock the door for a while. :)

Sunday it is (too late to arrange everything for today, and I am part-way through building the new PC for my FMC/CDU...)

0900Z event start, but I doubt I'll be there, my local supermarket is just opening it's tills then; I'll still be shopping... I'll follow along behind when I get done with that though (c.1030Z, but I can't be terribly precise).

Thanks to everyone that took part;

Part-timers - Phil Nut, Jonathan Rasmussen, Tim Berry (none of you managed to stay very long...)

Full-timers - Paolo Mazzoleni, Ben Horsfall, Bruno Falcao (and me!)

I've posted my pics in Ben's thread in the screenshot gallery, but since I have a screaming headache, I'm off to a darkened room for an hour or two...

Me the part timer! Was out on Sunday, couldn't fly the whole thing.

I was flying around Kansai in my helicopter snapping pics.
