Having read about it here I tripped on over to take a look at Windows Live. Unless I'm missing something it really isn't quite happening yet. (Please correct me if I'm wrong.) My Yahoo! has stacks more variety for stuff you can add to your page and is far more intuitive to use. Amongst other things it lets you:
- Add Bookmarks (which it automatically imports from IE) - This is great. It means all the links on my home machine that I use most are now available at work or anywhere else with an Internet connection. This makes using any other computer stacks easier.
- Add a calendar that will synchronise with most mobile phones or Outlook/Outlook Express if it doesn't automatically accept your mobile. So, my Nokia 9300 now synchs with the calendar in Outlook, then on to My Yahoo! This means, if I'm at work and on a PC I can update my calendar - if I'm at home ... ditto and if I'm out and about ... ditto and the whole lot synchs seamlessly. Now, that is cool and useful.
- My Yahoo! seems like a whole lot more colourful as an experience than Windows Live. Massive variety of colours and wallpapers to make the page your own. Plus, the thing comes set up with a range of content including images and cartoons and changing these is really easy. On Windows Live the 'add' link seems to only have a very small number of options. In My Yahoo! the range of options is astounding ... you can loose whole evenings just choosing what you wish to see as your daily cartoon.
Seriously, I can't rave about this product enough. It is a life changing freebie. If they now add in shared folders for photo bloggs I'll be delighted.
The only thing Windows Live seems to have over My Yahoo! is the rather sexy new MSN Messenger. Now, I don't yet use MSN Messenger but going on the basis that folks here do, perhaps this is something I should try to get in to. Just out of interest, how mny folks here regularly use MSN and is it useful or just an irritating bleeping in the corner of your screen followed by a friend talking txt lngwage at U?
