A380 delayed
« on: July 10, 2006, 08:20:55 pm »
Hi folks,

I heard a rumour that the A380 project is delayed for at least half year.

I heard that the airplane itself is superb, but the on-board entertaining centers, and the lots of interior variants caused a lot of troubles for the French designers, and they need to delay the real start for half year...the project leader already took off from his position because of the mistake.

Anybody heard that too ?

Yeah, but actually it hasn´t been cancelled. It´s been delayed (the deliveries). It seems that not only the customers requests in relation to the interior variant and passengers´entertainment, but also some Sotock Exchange operations made by Nöel Forgeard and his family, was the cause of his dimission.

Don´t know how this matter is gonna be solved but everything seems that there are some stormy cumulonimbus in front of Airbus future.

For more info check out a magazine called Avion Revue (is a Spanish aviation magazine, it´s published abroad Spain too, but I don´t knowin which countries is sold too).

Boeing is always the best.....:]
I support Airbus only to see more different planes at airports....imagine 1000 737 at each airport.....:[

You have already lost....Javier,it seems that each team you support is going to loose...Why don't you try a match between Scarlett Johanson and Cameron Diaz?? For me they are the best....maybe I can play for Jennifer Gardner....:]

To all members,

Sorry to seem heavy handed here and I hope this does not cause offence, this topic started as a discussion of the delay to the A380 and as it is in the Real World Aviation section, many of us would prefer it if the topic remained the same throughout the thread.

I would hereby kindly request that we return to the topic in hand, if other OT discussions are necessary then please start a new thread in the Crewroom or better still U2U or PM each other so as not to clog up the forums with posts that other members are forced to read through to get to a post that has any significance to the hobby we all enjoy.

Many thanks in advance,
Phil Nutt EHM 1703

BTW, Javier, what do you mean by SIA ? I thought the first few planes will go to Quantas and Emirates...

Slightly off topic (I'm sorry if this offends you Phil), but will airports have to modify much to accomodate the A380?

Sure they have to ! They need to install "double-decker" gates, and maybe some larger lounges for the much more amount of passengers.

Singapore Airlines is the "launch customer" of the A380,  thats why it had titles saying first to fly....

Ben, it does not offend me when we are relating to the topic in hand. When it veers off on tangents that include Actors and Models (or subjects such as Airbus v Boeing which are covered in many other threads) I find myself not reading or ignoring a large number of posts just to get to the meat in the sandwich. I hope you understand where I, and believe me, many others are coming from.

Getting back on topic slightly!

In addition to Roberts answer above, most airports have had to strengthen & widen both Runways and main taxiways to accomodate the A380. Currently the upgrade cost for Heathrow is in excess of 450 Million pounds!(that is just for 6 stands, 3 terminal airway gates, Runway and Taxiway upgrades) Currently there are less than 20 Airports worldwide capable of accepting the A380 under normal PAX operations.(http://www.airbusjapan.com/pdf/a380/a380airport_compat.pdf)

Well, maybe the extreme costs for airport upgrades will be worth it? The A380 can carry around 850 passengers and crew at full capacity, so I think that's quite a lot of money!! Although, it will take a while for the A380 to fully mix in with the airline industry because of the few airports that can handle it... but maybe over the future years it will pay back?

José, has the terminal only been designed or is it already built?

I wonder where the first A380 flight will be from?
