Upgrade to EHM Forum Software
« on: July 18, 2006, 02:02:12 pm »
At 1100Z on Wednesday 26th July 2006 we will be updating the forum software.

For the entirety of the update process (shouldn't take very much more than ten minutes) the forums will be turned off. We kindly ask all users who are about at that time to have a little patience should we overrun by a few minutes.

Why Upgrade?

For the fixes and security updates that have been made by the team that writes the forum software in the first instance.

Secondly, because the newest release has the capability to be very much faster and support many more users than the version we currently use.

Caveats

Backups of both the scripts and database tables that comprise the forum will be made prior to the work being undertaking, but given that a number of minor changes will be made to the database structure during the update, it is possible that one or two users will no longer have their birthdates listed after the update "successfully" completes.

We will do our best to carry all birthdates over, but as this is being done with a hand-crafted PHP script that we will have to written during the day, there is a possibility that some of you may need to re-enter your birthdates in Control Panel / Options -> Edit Profile once the update is done.

Thanks in advance

EDIT: ;D Thanks Phil, for pointing out I got the month all wrong (this happens every year, I suffer vast waves of confusion as the weather gets hotter)...

OK, update done (mostly) and it's working (mostly).

Tiny problem with my script to re-add the birthdays (no mysqli in the PHP here...) so I'll rewrite it and run it as soon as...

EDIT: and yes, it did take far longer than I thought it would... my ADSL (and Bluehost for that matter) was playing up sommat rotten. Got there in the end though...

UPDATE: Birthday script editted and successfully run. If you had your birthday listed before the update, it is in there again.
