This is Bill Gates basement room and on the sofa that's a copy of X-Plane ;)

What's the average EHM's pilot's attitude towards the new one? Buy? Wait? Ignore?

The new FS will be brilliant if you have the PC to run it ;)

You cant judge it until you've played it on a computer that can run it. Ive seen screen shot's from people who have top end machines and it looks absolutely stunning.

Well you hear different stories about it, some say it's crap others say it's great ;D

You do need to have quite a high end machine to have it going smooth with all settings full blast.

OK, here is my considered opinion...... WAIT!!!!!

Wow it's a frame rate killer! No I mean really..... With Sliders set half way across I was lucky to get a jerky 14 FPS over central London! (1280x1024) At this setting my FS9 with Visual Flight London, Ground Environment and AS6 looks and performs far better!

I can see it has a lot of improvements and the game itself is well finished but I think most of us will suffer an over whelming dissapointment at first until our hardware and the 3rd party addons catch up!

Just for your info, my specs are:
Intel 820 Dual Core CPU Overclocked to 3.1Ghz
Saphire ATI Radeon X1800 GPU with 256mb Ram
Abit AL8 Mobo
2gb Corsair XMS2 CAS3 PC6400 RAM
74gb SATA WD Raptor 10,000rpm HDD

Looks like I will be getting the Core2 Duo CPU & MOBO for Christmas! I will wait to get a new GPU until the DX10 stuff settles in price after release. One thing I am trying is Vista! MS have released RC1 version of Vista for testing purposes so I am downloading it to see if this improves performance any.

I will keep you posted.

I don't think it will take too long to get to Singapore, Javier.... and it doesn't really matter since the computer requirements are going to be through the roof (for me, at least) and all the FSX updates are going to take a while to make.

Yes frame rate killer - that's what is said quite often - but wasn't that the problem at all new releases?

My reason to wait is that I've bought loads of Addons the last year and it will last a certain time till there are the first equivalent products for FSX on the market.

And the question: Online flying - are there any problems?

I'm looking forward an interesting time and keep on enjoying FS9 for a while.

Ok folks, a quick update:

I have now installed it on my other PC (P4 650@3.4ghz, 1gb RAM, ATI X850XL) and I have it running at an acceptable level! Yes I had to reduce the detail levels somewhat but I found that after reading many posts in many forums that my main problem is the way I have my GPU running. (6xAA 8xAF) So now I am currently downloading Vista (Release Candidate 1) from Microsoft and I am going to run it under that as I believe there is a performance boost by running under VISTA!

I'll keep you posted.

Just got FSX in my mailbox and did a few short flights.

The level of detail is high and for the first time I was able to do a VFR using the highway from my hometown airport to EHAM.  But the high detail eats power, with the Chessna I got 5-10 fps. With a jet its more like 5fps.

This is with the default graphic settings  after installation running 1280x1024. The system requirments on the box a big joke :]

Reducing some of the grapic setting makes it acceptable to fly. Still, I considering to get a new system with Vista and an DX10 card early next year.

Now running it on a:
Intel P4 640 3.2Ghz
GeForce 6800GT 256MB
Creative 7.1 XFI Platiunum
2Gb PC3200 DDR
250GB SATA 72000RPM HDD

Matt, do you mean FSX? It's out already. My local Game has four 4ft shelves of nothing but FSX (2 of normal, 2 of deluxe) plus further displays... I dread to think what the PC World up the road looks like.

(And no, haven't bought it yet. My hardware is "old school mid range" so it runs FS2004 nicely, but it was choking on the FSX demo, plus I really can't afford it before mid-Q1 2007)

Okay, A further update:

After spending the weekend installing a new OS inbetween my wy work schedule, I finally have Windows Vista RC2 running with the latest Vista Catalyst drivers from ATI.... FSX runs a little better it has to be said, and since my last look at Vista, this seems to be running a lot better too! I am getting a regular 25 FPS (locked) on FSX with all my sliders at 3/4 (three quearters) apart from AUTOGEN which is off at the moment. (Autogen Scenery such as trees and ground equipment is the problem, there is some talk in some forums of an updated set of textures but I think this is a long way off)

Anyway, for now I am really happy with it and I can't wait to see what addons (freeware and Payware) start hitting the market first. I see the Photoreal VFR terrain sets have been made available and My Traffix X has hit the market! (Like we need lower Frame Rates! hahahaha) Gary Summons has said Gatwick, Glasgow and Stanstead versions should be released in about a month but there will be no backwards compatibility for the rest of the UK2000 Airports! :( Good news though a new faster version of Heathrow will be hitting the shelves in January!

Well that's my FSX update for today.... As always, I'll keep you posted! Ohhhh and for those of you looking for a good site with info on tweaking FSX, try here:

Well, the Vista RC1 one download still has over 2500 reported bugs in it! RC2 is marginally better with only 1400! I must admit, so far, I have not come across a problem that can not be solved although some software such as Nero Burning Rom etc wont run. Drivers are becoming more and more available, the Likes of Nvidia and ATI are releasing drivers.
