Hi all,
A few weeks ago I was flying the world tour leg W056 from SAWH to YSRN (Strahan Tas), and had a very difficult time in landing a 747 on a 4,000ft runway (to add to the difficulty, I had little fuel left to proceed to an alternate... not like I could anyway since that wouldn't be completing the leg!). Not to mention, the runway has trees right in front of it, which naturally called for a high approach which isn't practical as, on a 4,000ft runway, I needed every inch I could get. Well, I hit the runway hard and instantly the thrust reversers were in action and the braking was applied at a safe speed. I was able to stop at the very end of the runway. I just want to know, what is the purpose for having such a small and slightly dangerous destination airport after a 10 hour flight? And, if a pilot crashed, they would not be able to report the flight and I think that's unfair if they had stayed at the computer for 10 hours monitoring it every step of the way. I will be very grateful if someone could explain this to me.
Thanks!
