I have recently had some bad news. My computer is broken, and cannot be repaired. It might be some time until I get a new one. At the moment, I am using another computer, but it cannot handle FS, so I might go into Inactive state. Could I ask whether I could not go into inactive state, considering I have not left or anything, I'm just waiting.

Matt,

Did you get a new PC??? If so what sort of specs did you get in the end and is it any good for FSX?

Yep! I got a new PC just like I said!

I'm terrible at finding what the specs are, but here's what I found. I can't make hear nor tale of it, but maybe you can:

Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.20GHz, 3.20GHz, 1.00GB of RAM

as for FSX, I haven't installed it yet, but I'm not in a hurry. If you want me to install it, I'll do it.

I wouldn't bother if I were you Matt. Said it before, and I'll say it again, no point in upgrading until multi-cores are common and cheap (and Phil, I know you said FSX doesn't understand multiple CPUs/cores, but Windows Vista will and will be able to affinitise (not a real word, but I'm sure y'all know what I mean) FSX to one core and everything else to the other... I used to do something very similar with FS2004 under XP when I had my Athlon MP machine)

Matt, Don't install it on my account, just wondering how you were getting oin with it. As Murray said above, after seeing it set up by MS at the IFC, I can honestly say that I will not bother to re-install it until I have a new Dual/Quad core CPU to ddo it on with a DX10 GFX card.

Murray, I think I get what you are saying. Vista will enable us to decide what core runs what applications.... That will certainly give us an improvement as all the background tasks my PC runs certainly slow down my FS9!

ok. I was actually wondering how on earth they got all those computers to run smoothly, I mean, it's hard enough getting good comps (although they have nothing else on them) but still, it's hard to get FSX to run smoothly. I'd like to know how much money they had to spend on that.
