Huge problems.
« on: May 17, 2007, 01:10:11 pm »
Hi there!

As you might see I haven't fly for a while, that's because I upgraded my computer to Vista. Now I have installed FS2004 again. I have also installed, fsuipc, flight logger, some sceneries and ATC callsigns. I have installed also some of our aircraft fleets and that's where the problem is. I have succesfully installed all the fleets but when I try to fly with them I got this windows message saying: "Microsoft Flight Simulator Has Stop Running" (my transalation from the finnish message "Microsoft Flight Simulator lakkasi toimimasta"). Everything else works just fine. Flying same routes with other aircrafts and working fine. But when trying to fly with Euroharmony planes, always this same message. I have deleted fleets and reinstalled, but it didn't help. I have no idea what to do. Please help me.

(I also e-mailed this problem to my HUB Manager, Christian)

Oooops, CTD (crash to desktop) problems are among the worst you can get.
But in order to get a starting point here's a few things to get us started:
What exactly have you installed so far?
Are the failures always happenning on a particular plane or area?
Are the failures mid-way into a flight or the flight wouldn't start altogether?
If it happens mid-way into flight, can you run task manager  while you run FS9 and monitor your memory levels leading up to a crash?

CTD's are notoriously complicated and could happen from a million reasons (Vista itself being one of them).
I once had persistent problems with CTD just because of a faulty installation of active camera.

So, although I don't have an exact solution; the above will help everyone else understand where the problem could be.

A last resort solution is to do a clean uninstall, then install in a 'step by step' approach checking the performance of every part you install before installing the next one. That way you will be able to identify much better where the problem lies.

All planes, but only from Euroharmony and they don't work anywhere.

Flight doesn't start at all.

I think I'm going to uninstall FS and then install only Euroharmony planes, without any sceneries, etc.. Hope that'll work.

E: Well it doesn't. This seem to be very big problem :/

Tarik,

Are you using the Flight Logger when this crash occurs? The Flight Logger was written some time ago using VB5 and the runtime libraries are not supported by Vista. As far as I have found so far, there is no way of running the Flight Logger on Vista until the software is completely re-written on VB.Net. This is something that we have on the radar but will be a very slow and long project to complete.

Please let us know if this problem is related only to the fleet or possibly to the flight Logger?

I am currently installing FS2004 on my Vista machine to try and replicate the problem you have, as I only have FSX running under Vista. This is the problem when MS rolls out a new OS and forgets to tell people that their old software is rendered useless. Because FS2004 was written for XP, I only run t on XP, that way I am guaranteed some level of compatibility.

No the problem isn't in the flight logger. It's fine with Vista.

Now I tried all the planes and now this problem only appears on class 3 plane (that DHC Dash8....). Everything else works just fine now. Maybe they just needed to sleep over night ;) Very strange thing.

But still that one plane get this CTD. So maybe that fleet is having some problems under Vista.

I try to make some flight later today, and see if everything else is really working fine (flight logger, submitting PIREP, etc..)

In that case I would suggest that something the panel is looking for is not compatible with Vista, for now you will can try to replace the panel by aliasing it to a default panel.

Try looking at this resource for some tips:
