Birthday Fly-In
« on: April 15, 2013, 08:57:59 pm »
On April 29, EuroHarmony exists for 12 years already!  :D

We thought we'd celebrate with a fly in to a new, challenging destination: Aeropuerto Internacional Rodrigues Ballón, SPQU, in Arequipa, Peru.

To make things a little different from other fly-ins, we'll offer three different departure airports, depending on the class of airplane you would most like to fly on this occasion.

For the smaller props, we'll depart from SLLP (La Paz, Bolivia), for roughly a 200nm leg. Turbo Props, and small jets (or a DC-3 for that matter) can start from SLCB (Cochabamba, Bolivia), and then fly via La Paz to add another 130nm to the mix. Heavy metal can start from SLVR (Viru Viru, Bolivia) to max out with another extra 175nm, totalling some 500nm when traveling along the route Viru Viru - Cochabamba - La Paz - Arequipa.
Departure time will be preferqbly between 1900Z, and 2000Z, so that arrivals in SPQU are scheduled around 2100Zto 2200Z
See the attached file for an idea of the route.

The challenge in Arequipa, especially for the smaller airplanes, is the altitude. SPQU elevation is about 8500 ft, and there are high peaks in the vicinity.
The planes departing Cochabamba will have high mountains to negotiate, soon after the high-altitude departureas well.
The 9000 ft SPQU runway is well equipped to handle the big heavies that travel from Viru Viru, so that should not be too much of a problem. Lack of proper navigation means might be, though ...

Of course, you are more than welcome to fly at your own time, or off-line, but an on-line group flight would be nicest of course. In practice, IVAO appears to be the more popular choice of networks amongst our pilots. So I expect the largest group to show up on IVAO between 1900Z and 2000Z

This fly-in will be organised around self-assigned flights, with aircraft of your own choice.  ;D
Approaching the anniversary date, we'll add the airports to the database, so you can assign yourself the flight (or even more than one, if you so wish ;)).
EDIT: The flights are now in the booking system; just look for any flight arriving at SPQU, select one, select the corresponding aircraft of your choice (longer range = heavier class), and choose assign. :)
