And it's another long 'un!

The August fly-in is an attempt to fulfil some wishes that have now grown up as part of our long flight events to this point; a two part event (so that plenty of pilots can participate), westerly flight (so we can keep daylight most of the way), and visiting airports that don't necessarily get a lot of traffic from EuroHarmony.

The event begins in the Emirates at Dubai International (OMDB), where we begin with a 2204.7nm North Westerly jaunt to Budapest Ferihegy (LHBP).

Then, after a suitable interval, we continue North West for a further 557nm from Budapest Ferihegy (LHBP) to Malmo Sturup (ESMS).

Scheduling is still "up in there air", but it will definitely be at the end of August and will start c. 08:00Z. Check the event page and/or here for more news as it happens.

I'm not sure whether I can make it. I've been very busy lately, and who knows what might pop up.

Can you possibly "join" the event at your stopping point? Because if you did, I might be able to do it.

I might be able to make the longer flight from OMDB, if it's a Saturday (0800z = 1900NZT), and it looks like it might go for about 4 and a half hours. I might just be able to make it. EHM timing just doesn't fit with GMT +12!!!

Quick update for everyone. I flew the first leg this morning in the B737-800 at FL400, average M0.780 (ish...) and flight block time was a mere 5hrs 10mins (and I had plenty of fuel left - over 18,000 lbs!)

So, figure 4hrs sommat at M0.850 (B777) and you won't be too far away. Expect chart packs and flight plans on the event page real soon now...

Quick "poll" for the charts...

I've been onto the AIP websites for Hungary and Sweden, and grabbed all charts for LHBP and ESMS, and I've grabbed all available charts for OMDB from IVAO-AE. That's almost 35MB of PDF files for all three fields!

The question is, do y'all want me just to build three 7-zips (one for each field), or even one big 7-zip of everything I've got, or would you prefer I build separate APP/DEP/ALL 7-zips as has been done previously to make some of the packs a little smaller?

And Razza, stop being a wuss and set your alarm clock (if I have to wake up at 8 o'clock, I don't see why everyone else shouldn't...)

Conrad,

I've uploaded the full chart packs to my usual place (have a look at the code of the first long event page and you'll soon work it out...)

I'll not say no if you want to divide them into APP/DEP ;D

Big update to the event page!!!

Chart packs and flightplans are now on there for download. If you want to know file sizes, hover your pointer over the download links.

For "offsite" links (to the 7-zip homepage f'rinstance) I'd suggest your right-click and "Open in new window"/"Open in new tab" as appropriate. In line with W3C guidelines I am no longer "targetting" links. EDIT: and apologies to everyone for the delay in getting these downloads on there... Mucho real-world stuff getting in the way recently...

Peter H, Javier G and Matt H

Was nice seeing you all at Dubai - you'll get a mention for that ;)

Guessing you all fell victim to the netsplit that knocked me off IVAO for a minute or two.

Well, that's Robert landed and me crashed...

The 777 behaves badly whenever there's ATC about, and this time it established on the ILS then fell out of the sky (basically).

I'll take the B738 on the second half as I know all about it's little foibles and can, if necessary, take over from the AP in a single mouse click without having to switch away from FS (which I can't do with the B772)

Well, I said it before, and I'll say it again. It was quite bad timing for me. 5 minutes before the event, I forgot the event was on, and woke up, and went to my computer. Then the next moment was Javier was screaming at me, saying I still could make it. I did make it in time. Then I forgot my contact lenses, so as I got them, I fell over, and my Mic. is split in two. Then I said I'd be back to find another mic. Found another one, but the controller couldn't hear a word I said, and by then, everyone was at the runway, so I thought "Ah, there'll be another time". Me and Javier thought of flying part of the europe tour, and meet up with you guys in Budapest, but then we got a bit more involved in choppers.
