How to install Eric Marciano\'s A320 panel
« on: August 01, 2006, 05:23:18 pm »
I have tried to install this panel many times before, but after a lot of attempts over the past few days I finally have a solution.

The panel is excellent for those who can't afford/don't want to buy the PSS Airbus (like me). It has many features that are unique to freeware panels.
• Full Autoland
 • Autotune
 • An approximation of an FMGC
 • An airbus-style FCU
 • a working ND
 • Gated throttle levers
 • E/WD and SDs
 • An excellent PFD
 • An attempt at Alpha-floor Normal Law
 • and many more...
 •
EDIT 5/11/06: The files have been removed from EMs website. I have redirected the links below so they should still work. For an easier download, see my post below.

But it's a nightmare to install. Here is a guide I just wrote that will hopefully get your Eric Marciano A320 panel into FS2004. Igonore the directions included with the panel, they were designed for FS2002.

1. Check you have the latest version of FSUIPC installed in your modules folder. Get new versions from http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.html.

2. Locate your FS9.cfg file, located in this folder <windows_system_drive>:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9\FS9.CFG. It is a hidden folder. Open it up with a text editor. Check under the [OldModules] section that you have the line FSSound.dll=1. If not, add it. If you don't have an [OldModules] section, add one at the bottom and then add FSSound.dll=1. Probably best to make a backup first.

3. Run a search of all sub-folders of your main Flight Simulator 9 folder. Search for each of A320.gau, Toggles.gau, and FPDA_A320_Callout.gau. Delete all instances of these files. Also delete any files that have the same name with a suffix, for example FPDA_A320_Callout_0001.gau.

4. Download the main panel folder. Here is a link... http://www.flightxpress.de/files/070803/FS2002_Flugzeuge/A320_v22.zip. Put it into a temporary folder. Open the zip. Inside you will find a panel folder. Move the contents of this panel folder to the panel folder of the target aircraft (The EHM A320 of course :]), after you have deleted whatever was in there before.

5. There is a modules folder in the zip. Move the contents of this to the FS9/Modules folder. Do not overwrite your gps_export.dll file. If there are any other overwrite prompts, it is OK to overwrite those files.

6. Move the contents of the zip's Sound folder in to the FS9/Sound folder. Overwrite if necessary.

7. Move the contents of the zip's Gauges folder in to the FS9/Gauges folder. Overwrite if necessary.

8. Download the file http://files.fsnordic.net/files/zip/Panels/A320v22_patch.zip into the temporary directory you created earlier. Open the zip.

9. Inside is a file, A320.gau, dated 15 November 2003. Move this file to FS9/Gauges, overwriting the previous file.

10. Download the file http://www.fileden.com/files/2006/11/5/351369/Airbus%20Gauge%20Config.zip. Open the zip. Find the file Airbus Gauge Config.cfg. Move this file to FS9/Gauges, overwriting what was there before if necessary.

11. Find the panel.cfg of the target aircraft. Find the line gauge16=A320!E/WD, 722,446,215,19 and replace it with gauge16=A320!E/WD, 722,446,215,192,0-5-10-15-20-35.

12. Download the navigation database for the ND here... http://www.roychaffin.com/pub/nd2k_13.zip. Unzip it. Run the setup.exe file. When the installer asks for an installation folder, direct it to your Flight Simulator 9 Main folder. Ignore what it says about it being for FS2000/FS2002 only. When it asks which version to install, you only need to tick the line "ND for FS2002", not the "ND for FS2000".

13. Although the panel is great from a functionality point of view, the look of it is just that, functional. There is a texture enhancement available. Download it here. After you have unzipped it, copy the files within into the target aircraft's panel folder. Overwrite Eric's original bitmaps.

14. Start FS. Load the default flight using the default Cessna.

15. This step is only necessary for free unregistered FSUIPC users. From the FS ALT menu, choose Modules, then select FSUIPC. Click Register an application program. Put A320.gau into the top box, and the freeware FSUIPC key VSB5 4OK5 UVWN into the bottom 3 boxes. Choose OK, then Confirm, then OK.

16. Switch to your target aircraft.

17. Perhaps now would be a good time to download the PDF manual and get to understand how the panel works. It is a lot different from the stock aircraft, I think you will agree.

If you have any problems or questions with the panel, try Eric's FAQ. This also gives details of how to add the FS9 GPS to the panel (useful for those direct to instructions you get on IVAO, so you can do them without disrupting your current flightplan.

Anything not in there, try posting here, and I (or someone better at these things than me) will do our best to answer your question.

Happy bussing!

Thanks Iain ! If this panel is so cool, I think we could make a batch installer after your tutorial. Or a program, that at least install and overwrite the needed files...and the rest of the work should do still manually. ;)

AMD X4-955 3.2GHz / Gigabyte 770T / 4 GB DDR / Gigabyte GTS450 1GB DDR
Samsung 226BW@1680x1050 / WinXP.3 / FS9.1 / FSX.1 / Saitek Cyborg 3DGold

EM has removed the files from his site for some reason. Here are two possibilities if you want the panel.

1. Here is a compiled version for the A320. It is a batch file, containing all the required updates in one go:
http://www.fileden.com/files/2006/11/5/351369/EM%20A320%20panel.zip
And here is the same for the A330:
http://www.fileden.com/files/2006/11/5/351369/EM%20A330%20panel.zip
Instructions are in the downloads.

2. If you want to do it the hard way, I've redirected the links in the lead post to alternative download sites.

In my opinion Ken Mitchell's panel is a lot better for the A320. But still it's missing the course selector, so I had to download another panel, which is basicly Ken's panel with some minor changes.
