I\'m still flying!!
« on: November 04, 2006, 08:53:55 pm »
Dear pilots,

We have a new event on ProPilot.
The Event is going to start at Luanda airport, at 10th November and ends at Beirut Airport at 24th.
So, if you want to join, send an email to bruno@fly-euroharmony.com in order to receive your airplane.

Remeber, don't crash your airplane.
We suggest you start practising with the MD-17 Cargo UNHCR airplane as soon as possible. Try visual landings at most.
Also, if you have some problems landing it, try to decrease the realism settings on the airplane so you can be more hard on the landings.
Also, always view the landing runway before doing the flight, because some default sceneries have some problems on some aerodromes that we use.
Install all the required sceneries that we have on the EVENTS page. They will help you on this part.

This is the official discussion thread, so post your comments/suggestions here.

Regards,

EHM-1821 Javier

Can we fly all flights online (and submit PIREPs on ivao)? Since FS time is in our control, we can change FS time when flying online even though the actual time is not correct.

and i just found out that the plane's wheels dont touch the ground, anyone with this problem?

I editted the cfg file for the first 3 contact points(landing gear) to:

point.0 = 1.000, 56.000, 0.000, -12.500, 1000.000, 0.000, 1.800, 70.000, 0.500, 2.500, 0.900, 9.000, 8.000, 0.000, 220.000, 250.000
point.1 = 1.000, -7.000, -16.000, -14.000, 2000.000, 1.000, 2.000, 13.000, 3.000, 2.500, 0.900, 11.000, 9.000, 2.000, 220.000, 250.000
point.2 = 1.000, -7.000, 16.000, -14.000, 2000.000, 2.000, 2.000, 13.000, 3.000, 2.500, 0.900, 11.000, 9.000, 3.000, 220.000, 250.000

Thanks for that Javier, I'll see if my airplane's gear has issues and see what happens.

I just got through installing all those must have files for the scenery. Quite a lot to get through! But I bet the tour will make it all worth it. I can't wait to start the event. The countdown to Friday begins!

I now realized that the UNCHR-Event is a ProPilot-Event - till now I am afraid not having made any expereence with it - I only read the PP-manual and assume that it is a very enjoyable program - but till Friday I will not have enough practice to do all the things: Manage PP. Online-Flying and have the skills to fly the large plane in an acceptable manner.

So I'll join you next year.

Have fun!

Thanks Javier, I did not notice it until you not mentioned. BTW, I would recommend 12.8 and 15.0 Z coordinates, otherwise the gears sink too much into the ground (at least on tarmac)

I am uploading the plane again with the new settings ;)

AMD X4-955 3.2GHz / Gigabyte 770T / 4 GB DDR / Gigabyte GTS450 1GB DDR

I don't think flying online would be appropriate (not sure though), as many of the flight have set weather themes that have to be used.

Also, could some one remind / help me as to where and how to install the scenery updates from the events page - i'm really bad at it and can never remember which file in FS9 to add the sceneries too??
Many thanks Jim

How long will each flight take on average?

All have varying lengths, so hard to determine an average...Count me in for the event though, havent done one yet.

I'm not sure whether to do it or not! I've been very VERY busy lately, and my FS has decided to act weird on me. I do not have much experience flying the big planes, so with my luck, I'll probably crash!

Ok mates,

Till now we have 11 reservations! That's a fine number just for the first hours for the announcement! ;D

Regarding your doubts:

You can do the flight on IVAO. You need to disable the "real time when loading" feature on the IVAP settings, because you should do the flight at day to see the runway (remember it's grass, no beacon lights on the runway).

You should practise the visual landings with the airplane. Practise with 50% fuel maximum, no need for more when doing the legs because they are short.

Always check if the destination has the runway okay! This is very important, because some default sceneries have some problems on the runways (runways cutted with land, runways ABOVE the land level, etc etc).

Any urgent problems write them here. I ask you all to help your friends in order to solve their problems. Also, the MT is 100% informed of everything, so, ask them also.

Here are the participants till now:

Great. After I get home from school tonight I'll have a look at all the airports and make sure there's a runway there. Thanks for the plane too, Bruno! This is going to be a fantastic event...

Would love to take part but the tight time constraints make it impossible when working shifts :@
Good luck to everyone

I've installed the C-17, but the gauges don't work. I don't understand why, because earlier I installed it, and the gauges worked

@ Matt:  Copy the old C-17 file panel into the new version´s aircraft folder. (Replace it, by the old one). That´s what I´ve done and it has worked;D

Hi,

I need some information :

1 - Required files - no problem with installation, because there are readme files inside the zip files. Except Afrique_Afcad_p2, that has a lot of text files. Where i must put them?Or this files are just information?

2 - In the airfield HCMM, i have duplicate rwys, it is one rwy and another above the first one. I see that because it doesn't match exactly.

3 – In Addis Ababba (HAAB) i open the fs with the aircraft on the active rwy, and it was placed on a cross position in the middle of the rwy.

Concerning the aircraft installation, no problem.I installed the EuroCargo and the new Euroharmony v4 MD-17 without problems, everything is working right. The plane's wheels touch the ground and the gauges are ok.

I did a few EHM World tour legs with this aircraft for practice, and i have see that:

1 - Is not possible to lock the clock (lock the chronometer), for visual approaches, it is very useful.

2 - I only obtain to take off after 150 on the speed display, with flaps at position 2. A problem on short grass rwys.

3 – After t/off, must be careful with the climb rate, it is easy to stall.

4 – On approaches if we cut the power much early, the airplane falls like a rock .

Summarizing, this goes to be the best and the more difficult  event of all the times.

Do not fear  the ProPilot, read about penalties, try to not crash, come on and have fun.

Congratulations to the management and good luck to everyone

"4 – On approaches if we cut the power much early, the airplane falls like a rock ."

That's the most important thing to remember my friends .... do a good long approach, come near the ground, about 500fpm on a stable altitude and speed, and at the end drop down the nose and reduce speed to land ...
Don't use it like the normal IFR approaches where you start the approach about 20nm from the airport and 8000ft on the air, it's complex to do this on visual landings on grass runways!

Ok mates,

I decided to make the first leg to test it out. I will give you my tips to handle it correctly.

Ok, airborne already. I didn't took too much fuel, neither flown at a higher altitude. Just 8000ft. I suggest you do the same on this small legs.

Here already at cruising altitude and speed, taking some notes on my notebook.
First, you need to use the GPS as your VOR/NDB instrument. Basically you set the source and destination airport and choose Directy flight. Then, at airbone you choose DCT on your GPS and place the FNMQ airport so it can give you the relative bearing to the airport. This is very important in order to do a correct visual approach with an airplane like this one!

Ok here I am very close to the aerodrome. The runway is 07 - 25, so you need to do the most simple VFR approach:
1. You pass by the runway.
2. After you pass the runway you wait about 3 minutes before turning to right or left, parallel to the runway but on the oposite way!
3. You do a 180 turn to align with the runway, using the GPS bearing to FNMQ as aid.

Passing throw the runway here ...

Now I'm doing a right full 180 base and final leg for the approach ... notice that the BRG on the GPS is climbing to near 250 degrees for alignment ... (Rwy 25).

... and there I am, almost aligned with the runway on manual mode now.

On the final now, completely manual. Notice the airspeed...

Touching ground!

And stopped.

You can see that on the approach I was very close to the ground. That's the best way to approach and land this heavy airplane, is to avoid coming from high altitudes directly on the runway. It's very hard that way, so I strongly suggest this approach.

Regards,

EHM-1568 Jojo
