EHAM Ops Manual
« on: May 06, 2009, 08:45:55 pm »
Dear fellow Amstellers,

Let me present you the progress of my devotion to Schiphol: the EHAM Ops Manual.

It is not finished yet of course, major maps are missing, but the rest is thought to be finished. Still to come:
- airport overview map (taxiways + gates)
- airport area map
- terminal map (a little tourist guide)
- TMA / FIR map - in case of size of Amsterdam FIR it is easy to fit into a map :P

I would be glad to hear some critics, either good or bad. Do you think it is useful or not, would you like to see something else or more ?

Thank you very much... and Amstel forever ! ;D

Hi Robert,

Since when is 36R (which by the way is the Aalsmeerbaan, not Polderbaan South) no longer used for landings?? My grandparents live parallel to the approach and for as far as i know planes are happily flying in front of their livingroom windows...

On the other hand (flown a lot out of Schiphol, and used to live in the area for about 7 years) i have never ever seen a plane take-of from 06. Same i have never witnessed a plane take-of from 27 (would take it direct over downtown Hoofddorp - phones will immediately be red-hot with complaints i suppose).

Anybody seen the contrary..??

Nice idea though!

Cheers,
Stef

Hi Stef !

I hoped that local pilots will help clarify mistakes, thank you very much ! You pointed out a mistake with 18/36 runways, I will correct it.

As far as the 06 and 27, I took the information from the AIP pages of runway preference. Of course I will check it. But perhaps the ATC guys do not like those runways ;D

Hi,

In the rwy27 case, i've had a look at the LVNL (Dutch ATC) site and found a table with the runway use at departure

Buitenveldertbaan 09-27
09 From 06.00-23.00 hour allowed to the east
27 From 06.00-23.00 hour allowed to the west

On an other (planespotter)site i found out that t/o rwy 27 is only used in stormy conditions

Good luck with the Opsman. is looking good

As far as I know runway 09 / 27 is used when there is a strong wind, and when it is the safest option to land on the 27 / takeoff 09. For example winds 260/25 G36 etc.

Also for Eham flyers there is another nice challenge a ILS27 / Breakoff 24 approach, so you'll approach the 27 and breakoff the Ils for the 24. Try it, its fun!

Its a great document Robert!

Gr,

The other Robert, hahaha

Robert,

Isn't it an idea, to assign a couple of gates to EHM, like i believe IVAO has done on EGLL (forgive me when i'm wrong).

Cheers Niels

Well, I thought we have already discussed it, but I cant find a finished thread in this topic. Yes it would be great to have fixed positions. Although this airport is too much structurated that you can find many airlines everywhere around the piers. I mean the result of Schengen/non-Schengen terminal zones.

According to this, without saying anything official I would advise something like this:

Class 1-3: B-apron
Class 4-5 Schengen: B-pier
Class 4-5 non-Schengen: D-pier mid-numbers
Class 6 Schengen: C-pier
Class 6 non-Schengen: E-pier
Class 7: F-pier

Errrrr I know, hard to remember ;D

I have prepared a "little" terminal map too for the manual. I collected these info from many sources on the net, but best is the real experience. So I thought I SHOW IT before official release. Again, some feedback is appreciated ;)

Robert,

You're creating a really excellent resource for Schiphol pilots, the maps are clear and very informative - brilliant work ;)

Thank you Dominic !

I just wanted to say, that this project was not forgotten, only postponed a little because of other tasks around the airline and in real life. I will show you if the manual get updated ;)

Great, thanks! there are only two things:

1. Mid document there is a typo saying "no have" or something like that where I am sure you meant "don't"

2. Why not keep irrelevant stuff such as the use of GPU/APU out? these things are not simulated at airport level
in MSFS anyway. Or perhaps such "irrelevant" things are better put in a sidebox with small letters as
    in "In the real EHAM..."

Good to see this sort of manual!

Hello Didimo !

Thanks for the ideas. But I think you are wrong about GPU/APU. It is also a panel-dependant feature and many times modeled in payware airplanes, but I also use them on some freeware panels.

Dear fellow E-hammers or EHAM-mers  ;)

The tutorial reached its final status. I added new maps and corrected the mistakes. If you find some more, please say it here. Otherwise enjoy flying to Amsterdam ;) I hope this short guide will be a bit of help.

Robert,

That's a superb piece of work and absolutely full of useful facts and advice, thanks for sharing it with everyone. I'll certainly be looking to make my flights more realistic at EHAM now ;)
