.. and now surprisingly prefers the macbook
So I had to purchase a replacement laptop, which I did yesterday.
I bought a DELL, as I like the flexible specifications and price and found this website:

I got about £400 off the price, plus an extra 10% discount with the code. Some of these deals aren't accessible inside dell's site either (example the 2nd gen i3/5/7 on the xps 15 have been pulled from the dell site, but the deal codes from the website above allow access).
Now admittedly I had the usual escalation from the £700 lappy to the £1050 I eventually paid, but I also went from a first gen i3 with low res 15" screen to a second gen i7, 17" display at FullHD: LED with 3D, Blu-Ray, TV Tuner, Upgraded Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Nvidia 555M and 4 gig ram.
Should be a monster and should be able to play FS9/X-plane (not fsx) on that when on the road - result.
Thought I'd share the site as I'll definitely be using that again when I next purchase.
