Any real pilots in the building?
« on: June 16, 2005, 09:46:46 am »
Do we have any real pilots in the VA, preferably with recently acquired radio navigation skills?

I am looking to expand my FS knowledge with some real-world radio navigation skills, and I want to get a really good CBT radio nav course.

If anyone out there has suggestions of products I can look for (preferably UK/EU-biased) I'd be very grateful).

Sorry, I only have books that were written in Dutch only.

I know that there´s a Norwegian company that has an excellent series of aviation books. Unfortunaly I don´t know their name. Those books are written in English.

The younger classes here at the KLM Flight Academy use some of these books (modified version). I´ll try to find the name of this serie of books.

Thanks Maarten, it completely slipped my mind that you are at KLM University (;D)

Don't suppose you are using any computer software training aids there? (Names for any of those would be grateful accepted as well...)

I only have one CD-ROM and that one is for USA radiotelephony. We still work with the good old books :)

What do you want to know about Radio Navigation?

Everything ;D

I suppose what I really want is to know how to use radio navigation properly (kinda what FS tries to teach you in the "Flight School", only more so...)

I don´t know any sources for that. When we talk about radio navigation skills, most of the time it is common sense. When you understand the charts, you understand the radio navigation procedures.

If you want to know more about the technical part of radio navigation then I can tell you that I have loads of books of it, but I can ensure you that you don´t know want to learn that ;)
