Hi,

I've been away for home for 2 weeks and I miss FS and my private VC10.

The only computer I have here is a 386. Luckily there was MSDOS on it, so I could write a flight simulator...



Flight planning, from LRTM to LROP. Only direct route can be used, isecs and airways not yet included.



Parked at the ramp at LRTM, before engine startup. ATC not yet included.



After departure, climbing to FL150



In flight



On final rwy 26R LROP



Next flight, to LGIR



Descending (those are clouds below me)



Above the Aegean sea. That island in front of me is Crete, I'm going to land there. (I turned the clock back by 1 hour, so I could catch the sunset)



On final rwy 9. I don't remember if LGIR has ILS, however I added one. :) The picture lost its quality due to compression, so the border between sea and land it's not so obvious (it's that line at the left).

you coded that all by yourself? :s That's amazing! but it's kinda hard to tell whether you're on the ground or off it :P

looks basic compaired to todays gaming standards, but it's still an impressive piece of coding!! Nice job! Maybe this will one day be the successor to Microsoft's monopoly in the FS series:]

Today's gaming standards also include
a 40+ design/programming team, 10 artists
between graphics and sound and a
coordination/production team of another
5-10 people for a couple of years (FS) or...
one person  for 12 years (X-Plane).

Even for today's standard it's amazing. ;)

Some info from FlightSim version 1
"The panel even looks like the current standard Cessna panel. It contains 8 round gauges for airspeed, attitude indicator (artificial horizon), altimeter, turn coordinator, heading indicator (gyro), rate of climb indicator and tachometer (rpm). In addition it offers control position indicators, a magnetic compass, fuel and temperature meters, gear indicator, clock, NAV and COM radio and a transponder. A current day FS-pilot would immediately feel "at home". The only things that are really missing are ADF/DME equipment and an autopilot and GPS. But were these already normal on all real planes at that time?

In version 1 the view was limited to straight ahead or down (radar) view, both with the possibility of zooming in and out. The very first version supports 8 color CGA, although the simulator was very flyable with a b/w monitor.

Seeing that images from Gergely remembers me the first FS i´ve played... i think FS4 on a 486 with 8 Mb Ram... at that time that was amazing... it´s fabulous to see the evolution of Flight Simulation!! :]

I wanted to add ATC and GPS but there's a quite serious limitation to MS-DOS BASIC, namely that the code must not be larger than 62K. The program is already 57 K so I don't think I can make it. :{

When I was a kid I used to make several of such programs on Spectrum, for example I wrote a bus simulator where you could drive from Targu Mures to Bucharest (350 km). :)

I loved Spectrum Gergely - remember the Psion Flight Simulator.
