Is it possible to start with engines shut down?  As i incurred a penalty on PP for starting engines when lights were off.

Yes it is Phil,

Open up your default Flight. Turn your engines, lights and electronics / Avionics off. Then save the flight as something different (Under the FILE / SAVE FLIGHT menu) make sure you tick the box that says "Make this your default flight". That's it! You can also set it up so it starts at your favourite gate at your Hub with everything off.

The only problem with this is the fact that if you use PSS Airbus or Boeing 777 addons, this will cause problems as the simulator has to load the default flight that comes with FS2004. (You can change it back at a later date if you want though)

Hope that helps.

As many panels do not have an avionics, and battery switch it would be hard to spin up from absolute cold, this is my tactic:

- Start FS, create the flight, and start it.
- Ask for clearence (offline ATC of course) and shut down the engines.
- Start Logger and setup it
- Do your preflight preparations, and startup engines only after that.

This way you will not get penalties. Before you start the Logger you can start FSPassengers for example and let the pax boarding, while you setup the airplane for the flight.
