EHM Video - My first go!
« on: February 22, 2006, 01:20:10 am »
First of all, I know it's not a screenshot, but I thought this would be the best place for it.

Secondly, this is my first attempt at publishing an FS2004 video so please excuse the quality.

Click the link below to watch it, I hope you enjoy and would welcome your comments.

Click here to watch my Lambourne Loop video
- ***DEAD LINK NOW***

Okay, now for the details:

1) Sorry, i thought I recorded the Rollout and Takeoff but after shutting the plane down and closing the sim, I realized it hadnt recorded.

2) I am definately not going to make it as a DJ, sorry for the poor quality music transitions.

3) High Approach, trying to film and fly is not adviseable, good job there were no PAX on board!

4) Ooooooowwww! That landing was hard! Well as you probably gathered the PMDG was set up for a CAT III autoland but the captain forgot to reset the QNH! (As I said, trying to film and fly is quite hard)

This was all filmed in real time, not on the replay (so as to include as much traffic as possible) so unfortunately it was a little jerky and the quality of flying was pretty poor! I didn't even mess with Active Camera or edit transitions so hopefully the next one will be so much better, may be try and get a few of us online for a film / commercial shoot!

FYI, I used FRAPS to film it (a peice of video recording software) and the standard Microsoft Movie Maker to edit it.

Hope you like it and put your thoughts down. (If you all think it is bad I will give up on the movie business :P )

Hi Phil,

It's on our plans to develop a intro movie for our company. But because of our lack of time right now, maybe you could help us out.

Get on msn so we can talk about it if you want to ;) ..

Phil,

I agree with the others, it's a great video and you've clearly spent a lot of time on it. I particularly like the angles including other traffic on the ground and traffic leaving a contrail above you in the air ! You've already analysed possible improvements yourself but I think you're probably being a little hard on yourself...;)

Certainly an excellent first submission, looking forward to seeing more !

Hi Phil,
it's simply amazing that video I loved especially the landing part when the pilot counts down the height. Why don't you film during February Fly in event? It could be the best advertisment for EHM.

Dom & Phil -
Well to be honest, it really didn't take that long to produce the video itself as it was such a short flight.

I started on Sunday by purchasing and installing FRAPS which is a great little program for recording your FS screen. (and other games!) I spent Sunday evening playing around with my settings and getting used to the program.

Most of my free time on monday was spent researching public domain music which is of course a minefield as most music that is free of broadcast rights has a very high purchase price. I found a nice little website called www.yopo.co.uk which has a couple of free to use downloads and also it has quite a lot of purchase stuff that is reasonably priced.

Finally last night I spent about 1 hour performing and recording the flight then about 2 hours editing the clips and putting the movie together with the music. (all in all the video part was done in less than 3 hours) Then a further 4 hours were spent finding a suitable free host for the video..... This was one problem that although I had thought about it before filming, I hadn't done anything about it so again long hours were spent trawling the interweb.

The next attempt will be higher quality. (I heavily shrank the resolution and quality as I thought there would be more restrictions on the video hosting websites) and I will spend more time making the movie itself now that I have done a lot of the legwork. I will probably use Pinnacle Studio to edit the video as well so it should have better transitions between scenes.

Bruno
I would be more than happy to have a go, maybe you could open it up as a competition for everyone to have a go, I will include the links below for anyone who is interested to get started.

LINKS:

FRAPS - Video Recording Software (a free download is available but it is limited to making 30 second clips (not a problem as you can make multiple clips) and has the FRAPS banner on the recorded content)
http://www.fraps.com/

Music - As putting your video on the internet is considered broadcasting you have to use music that is public domain or purchased with the right to do so. A couple of free downloads are available at:
www.yopo.co.uk

Video Host - Well there are hundreds available but I found this one to offer the best free service as there are no download limits and they give you 25mb of storage. (The video above is 4.5mb so I will only get 4 or 5 uploaded before one is deleted or I have to look elsewhere)

Hope this helps any of you budding video producers like me, I hope to get a few more people get interested and we get some great little videos.

To all, thanks for your kind words, although time consuming, it is very satisfying to see the end result. I still maintain that it could and should have been a lot bettter, the next one will be, I promise!

Well, surely we are always opened to this kind of ideas.

If anyone more wants to give a shot and show us more videos, maybe we can decide what will be the best presentation video for EHM.

I would like to see how many of us are interested on trying this before giving the next step.

Hi Paolo,

Glad you enjoyed it. The PMDG 737 is a great aircraft to fly and the voice annunciators just add that extra bit of realism.

I'm sure I will have a go at filming the fly in but I think I will try and arrange something online at a different time as well. Flying the Barron and recording external view clips whilst online might be a bit too much, but i will certainly try.

Cheers,

(make sure you click in the upper left corner of the video to play it in fullscreen theatre mode)

The only thing to be said is "WOW" When I produce a video this good, I will be a happy man!

Hi Rico,
The voice is the callouts of the GPWS and they come with the PMDG 737 and to be honest, most other payware Airliners. (I would say that the PSS Airbus callouts are better)

As for the video, you could try their website:

www.virtualflight.ru

The Website is in mostly in Russian, but I find if you press the small tab that says "ENG" at the top of the screen and then press the fourth navigation button from the left underneath the VFTC banner you get to the screenshots section which are in English. The Video reels are near the bottom of the page and are in WMV format, so although they don't stream very well (Their server is pretty bad) right click on the video file you want and "save target as". A couple of the video links are dead but the VFTC 2004 (which is the film above) videos seem to be the best quality.

Hope that helps.

FYI I have already started work on a more proffesional looking 4 minute video featuring the EHM PMDG 737 so watch this space, I hope to have it up by tomorrow night.

I have the PMDG 747, and never noticed it...Do you know if it comes with it. Maybe I have to turn it on or somethign. If not. Is there like a GPWS add-on program I could download somewhere??

I managed to get on the page, but when I click on the links for the videos, all are deadlinks : http://gallery.virtualflight.ru/index.php?cat=2 is the video gallery.. maybe you could double check it cuz maybe for some odd reason I get bad returns.. If you have the WMV format file, can you then upload it for me somewhere..?  A good site is www.yousendit.com .. email:ricoallee@hotmail.com .. or just post the direct link to the upload here  ;)

Hi Rico,

The video file is an 80mb download, so finding somewhere to host this would be pretty difficult and sending via email is almost impossible.

http://gallery.virtualflight.ru/displayimage.php?pos=-397

I have double checked the above link and it works on my Broadband connection  without any problems. This is the WMV version fo the first file I posted. (I did notice the second link to the mirror site was very slow though so I would use the top link)

Thanks guys, I thought yousendit had a download limit though. Don't quote me because my computer is very slow atm so I can't check it. (encoding the next chapter of my EHM video diary!)

Conrad, I may just take you up on that offer for my next little production, I would like to publish it as a 38mb file so I will have to look in to ways of getting it up. I am going to publish it as a lower quality movie first, just because I have spent a couple of days on it and can't wait to get it up to see what you guys think. Personally, I think it is a hell of a lot better than the first, still in the same vein, just longer, better music and more professional transitions between shots. Watch this space! I should get it up tonight.

Sorry to drag up a real old post, but thought some of you might like to see what happened when I got hold of Sony Vegas for a while and up dated the first video I made.

I have already had some comments from ppl who have seen it like:
"That music Sucks!"
"The quality is too low!"
Well I agree, but the hosting is free so I don't argue with the quality thing. The Music thing, well it was just the most modern music I found on my wifes laptop when I was editing it, also it makes for good transistions.

Hope you like it, also is some people missed it, I uploaded the February Fly in video to FS2004.com:

http://www.fs2004.com/downloads/index.php?dlid=1257

(This is a file download not a stream)
