Well, the Badge generator was maintained by Gergely. I am sure it will be soon updated since we have some brand new awards in the system.

EDIT: sorry for the delay, the program is under development with the newest awards

Hi,

Although Gergely told that he will upload the badge generator, we have just finished an "web based" badge generator, just like the "Pilot Signature" generator.

It's just running the final tests, so expect an announcement from Ben at any moment ...

On the subject of the web based badge generator...

Neat idea and a great piece of work. Two small issues:
Firstly, it seems to load the image in a whole lot slower than the image stored on my own web space. Is this a result of the speed of the host or the calculations being done to create the badge?
Secondly, it doesn't recognise the screnshot award - small point but important to those of us who have entered and won :)

I noticed it only on the 1st try. Since then, it reloads from cache ;)

Hi Phil,

Do you have a screenshot award? I do not see it on your profile :s

For the loading times, the file can be smaller, however you will lose quality...

PNG-28.5KB [Currently used]
JPG-7.25KB [Would you prefer this?
GIF-9.38KB [Think we can rule this one out :P ]

Ben,

When I was "hand-crafting" my badges (up until a week ago... thanks mate ;)) I used 256-colour PNG and reduced the badge to 75% of it's default size.

While I'd love to be able to get the new auto-badge smaller (far future suggestion...), of more use would be limiting the palette down from 24-bit (particularly on file sizes, and hence loading times).

Example: just threw my auto-badge ("Raw" 24-bit, 25.4KB) through PSPX and I come up with the following (Optimised octree, 256 colour, 8.89KB):

If you compare it with the "raw" file (my avatar) they aren't really all that different.

Ben, the JPG isn't too bad. I don't know if you have made any changes but it certainly seems smoother loading now.

My Screenshot award was March 2005 - a blinding one whilst  over a Greek island though I do say so myself :)

It now uses less colours (the difference is barely noticeable and the size is greatly reduced).

Wow - just checked it, I think I voted for that one too! However you did not have that award in your profile, hence it not showing on the avatar ;) - award is being assigned as I type...
