Airmail Pioneers Video
« on: April 15, 2006, 03:11:59 am »
Hi all,

As promised, I did some video shooting on Yesterdays flight from KUNV to KBKL. I used Active Sky for this flight and I soon wished I hadn't! It was some of the worse weather I have ever flown in. Heavy Thunderstorms at KUNV and a strong gusting headwind made for a very ugly takeoff. I then spent the next 20 minutes fighting turbulence all the way up to 9,000 feet. I managed to find some clear air up there and I put myself on a heading towards Cleveland as there was no way I could follow the VFR instructions. Coming down was almost as much fun and the landing was a little fast and a little left, but not bad considering.

Click on the picture below to stream the video, sorry, it's 15mb and I know this video host can be slow at times. Let me know if it's too slow and I will try and find somewhere else.

Great video Phil, but by Bob did you have problems getting her off the ground (forward column pressure at 40kts to raise the tail, VR at 85kts... ;)); it makes me so glad I flew that leg first thing yesterday morning when the only METAR issues I had was a bit of rain at KUNV, a strong headwind during cruise, and an 11kt crosswind from the lake at landing... ;D

heheh, yeah, I was too busy shooting the video to notice that I had wind gusts of 35kn coming straight at me, I guess thats what caused the plane to lift off a lot earlier than anticipated!

Well I guess, it a good thing that you wasn't carrying passengers. I would think they would have been real scared.
But it's a great video
