the author allways provides instructions for the installation of his work...Make sure you are extracting it correrctly to the right place, and have the "use folder names options checked"

Hi,

there is only 1 Gauges folder in the FS installation. There is a central one, in ...\FS2004\Gauges. The most planes put their gauges there, so other panels can use the gauges too...it is a big collection.

Not always, you can use a "personalized" folder for a panel. As each aircraft have its own Panel folder, some panel allows to put their own gauges to the aircraft's own panel folder, and it can read out from there...it is not true for FS2002 (!!!) and sometimes () does not work in FS2004 either. That is why we use the only 1... the 1 and only ... the central Gauges folder to keep all the gauges for all the installed panels.

If an install pack say to you "copy xxx folder content into Gauges folder" then you will know, that you need to copy those files to under ...\FS2004\Gauges. At EHM, we use self-extracting packages, so, in case the package contains the panel too, then the gauges will be automatically copied to the correct place You can check out the installed files and folders, if you type a fake FS main directory...like you put "C:\xxx" for installation, the installer will extract the files there, and you can check out the folder structure and extracted files.

I've read the manual, I've done everything, but I can't find the files to put in the gauges folder. That's my problem.

Okay okay Which package are we talking about

For the installers on the fleet page you do not need to look for any files, it will automatically extract everything. If you downloaded something from the net, there will be probably subfolders, or sub-zips in the package, under a name Gauges. It is used to be. If not, look for .gau and .xml and .cab files in the downloaded package and those will be the gauges.

Ok. I'm going to go over exactly what I did.

1: I opened up the file
2: I clicked on the installer, and installed it to Fs9/Aircraft
3: I went to the aircraft folder, and found two folders made by the installation.
4: One was called "fsfsconv" which has folders "TCP-Panel" and "TCP-Sound" in it.
5: the other folder is called "ATR 42-500 - Freelance TCP" which has folders "model", "panel" "sound" and "texture". Inside them, it is just a copy of the TCP ones.
6: I took out the documents inside "TCP-Panel", and put them inside the Panel folder of the EHM one.
7: I loaded Flight Simulator, the panel worked, but there were no gauges.

I've gone through exactly what I did, and I did not find any gauges, so where are they?

When I installed the downloaded package I did it to a dummy folder rather than to the FS9 directory, this way you can see exactly what folders it creates. From memory (I'm at work at the moment) I believe it creates three main folders - 'aircraft', 'gauges' and 'sound' and the content of each of these folders should go into the same named folder in your main FS9 folder.

So the folders you've found, including the 'fsfsconv' folder should be in the main 'aircraft' folder. The fsfsconv one contains the ATR-42 panel details (which is the bit you need) and the actual aircraft this download creates should be in a folder called 'Air Caledonie ATR-42' or similar... This is the one that you should copy the panel folder from in my instructions above.

The other one you need (and probably the cause of your problems) is the 'gauges' folder which may have ended up in your FS9/aircraft folder... If so, open up the new 'gauges' folder, select all the contents and 'cut' them then open up the main 'gauges' folder in your FS9 folder and 'paste' what you've cut into this folder, overwriting all the older gauges and files.

I hope (if my explanation hasn't given you a massive headache) that this will then mean your ATR-42 instruments should all show up correctly! If they still don't, get back to me and I'll do my best to work out what's wrong...  


EDIT: I see you've updated your last post, it appears that the gauges have not ended up where they need to be so follow the instructions above and look for the new gauges folder. If no joy, your best bet is to run the installer again to a dummy folder (eg C: downloads/ATR-42) and then extract the contents of the 'gauges' folder that this will create straight to the main FS9/gauges folder. Then it SHOULD all work...

Thanks! I noticed my problem. The bloody gauges folder somehow ended up in my Documents and Settings. I've found it now, so I had a big massive headache, but now it's gone!;D Thanks!

Another Problem:{ I've done the dummy thingy. I've extracted all the files from the gauges folder, and put them in the main Gauges folder. I've copied the panel, and put it in the EHM folder. I turn it on, and I have the fuel, and the Altitude Indicator, but nothing else.

Do you mean that there are black holes where the gauges ought to be or that they are there but not moving?

One of the possible problems you could have is that the actual panel is designed to be in the 'fsfsconv' folder and the plane's panel folder then aliases this panel, that is to say the panel.cfg file (the notepad text file in the panel folder in the actual aircraft) just 'points' towards another folder where the actual panel details are kept...

So if you've moved everything to the EHM folder it might be pointing to another location that no longer contains the panel! I would suggest that if you aren't totally happy with altering panel cfg files yourself, you revert to the basic arrangement of the panel itself being in the 'fsfsconv' folder and the panel.cfg file in your EHM plane's panel folder pointing to the 'fsfsconv' panel (which is what you'll get if you copy the whole panel folder from the downloaded Air Caledonie ATR-42 and replace the EHM ATR's whole panel folder with it). That's what I'd suggest, as per the full instructions above as this will definitely work

I'm sick of these planes now. The EuroHoliday class 3 one's cockpit is missing, there are black holes in the Dash 8-400, and there is no bleeding euroCargo!

I think One of my problems is that I'm having to overwrite files in the Gauges file. How can I change that so I don't have to overwrite them, without causing the aircraft not being able to find the files?

It can be really frustrating when you can't get a new plane to work but it's normally a case of carefully checking the instructions and following them to the letter

If this doesn't work describe exactly what the problem is in the Forum... so when you say the cockpit is missing, do you mean there isn't a VC or that no 2D panel shows up or something else..?

Are you pointing the EHM planes' automatic installer to your main FS9 folder? Or are you doing it manually?

When do you get asked about overwriting files? Does it give you the details of the file you're overwriting? Normally this should not cause you problems unless you install an FS2002 version of a plane in FS9 and this overwrites newer gauges that you need...

Do you have other add-ons for FS9 (payware scenery or aircraft...) that may have altered your FS9 set-up? All these details will help us to work out what's gone wrong and get you flying again

1)I've fixed the Dash 8. Turned out the gauges were all screwed up, but I fixed it.

2)I found out what the problam is in the Euro Holiday one, but I haven't fixed it. The Problem is, you know in the panel folder, there's a word document? When you just install an aircraft, it says that it's copying another plane. When you install a panel, there's a new document, which refers to the gauges, and where they should go (correct me if i'm wrong.) If I'm right, the problem is this. I've done everything for the Euro Holiday, but I don't/can't find the word document, telling the gauges where they are.

3)The Euro Cargo, I have tried everything, and I've gotten so mad with it, I want to punch these smilies next to the text.

so in conclusion, I've fixed the first problem. The second one, I think I can fix it if someone tells me where the files are, and for the third one, I need desperate help.

I've just downloaded the fleet EuroHolidays Embraer 120 (Class 3) to check your problem and it should automatically use the default panel from the Beech King Air. If you look in the panel folder for the eho_e120 aircraft there should be just one text file called panel.cfg which should just contain the following text:

alias=beech_king_air_350\panel" (without speech marks)

FS9 will only read this file if it's a plain text file and recognises it as the cfg file so if you've opened it in Word (which you seem to indicate in your post) this may have changed the file and the sim no longer recognises it as a panel.cfg file. If so, you need to delete and reinstall the whole plane (or cut and paste the text above into a plain text cfg file if you're happy doing this).

As for your problem with the EuroCargo plane, I still don't understand what's wrong - can you explain what you mean please?

My general advice would be, the EHM planes are set up to be simple to install, so if you're having problems, delete that specific aircraft folder and install it again, following the instructions in the installer carefully and installing to your main FS9 folder. Then there shouldn't be any problems...

I have just installed the recommended exe-File from atr425-tcp2.zip by Jean Francois COLOMBAIN to use the panel for then EHM ATR-42.

After installation I cannot find the directory or any trace of the installed files on my harddisks. I did not concentrate when the installation directory was shown in the setup dialog.

Can anybody give me a hint where the setup routine puts the files? I use a german Computer where FS lies in C:\Programme\Flight Simulator 9.

I'm back! I'm alot wiser now then that little kid known as E4S! I tried the ATR again, and had to change the aircraft.cfg a bit, but it works! Thanks Dom!
