Hey guys,

well AOL is driving me up the wall, and was wondering what you guys are using. I have been using the Max DSL upgrade in my area for around 2 weeks and i usually get a connection of around 6 -7 mbps, however AOL, with stupid MTU settings and many restrictions and constat server problems are driving me nuts.

What do you guys use? (UK)

Regards

I am currently using PIPEX. They are not bad, but they are also not great IMHO.

Not too many outages although speed can be a little slower than expected at times. (probably due to 50-1 contention ratio)

I am moving house in a couple of weeks and was thinking of swapping service myself I will let you know if I find a better deal.

One thing to look at if you subscribe to Sky is the free broadband offer they are just bringiing in!!!! Check it out at their home page.

You can also compare services here:

Hope that helps,

Wanadoo are very good, customer service is rather good and the actual broadband package is very reliable.
Speed can vary depending on how much your willing to pay, but thats up to you.
Complete with the package we got was a wireless router, and adapter.
Its very safe but can be tempremental when there is a "very" high workload.

I'm on Wanadoo (now Orange) - I say the same as Razza, quick, but annoying download limits, and mine has a tendancy to throw me off at peak times and then not getting an ADSL signal for about a minute.

Zen, Nildram, Demon - all have great customer service, and the line quality is pretty good (but good luck getting an uncapped now days)

Fasthosts are cheap and I'm told that their speed is fair (but don't have first-hand experience of thir DSL, we use them for hosting at work but our lines are Elipse (wouldn't recommend them...) and Nildram (excellent))

Have a look on adslguide.co.uk, they let you compare most all UK DSL providers.

Hi Conrad...

I have been with BT for a few years and have found their service excellent - fortunately have not had to use an customer support, so cannot comment on that.

However, they started a while ago creating ridiculous packages/options for the service. I got in early and am uncapped, with 2Mb for a reasonable price. They have offered me upgrades in the past to the upto 8Mb, however the new 'options' were full of junk that I realkly don't want, and costing substantially more. So for now I am sticking with 2Mbps, and have no wish to leave BT due to the excellent service. I am also keeping well clear of the BT-Yahoo side of things!

I use Tiscali and have now for about five years first with dial up and now broadband,i have heard people say terrible things about them but i have had no problems.I have used both there e-mail and there telephone help lines and they have been BRILLIANT! and i tell you why i think there so good, because there help centre is in India and the people working there are high quality. If they had been English you no what sort of service you would have got(try Dixon's PC world etc
PS one guy even rang ME  once to see if there advice  had helped me with a connection problem .
Had the same with Microsoft who also use an Indian based helpline there people where so helpful when i had buggered up my windows fiddling with the registry and had me up and running in no time.
TISCALI and MICROSOFT you should give your staff a pay rise and do take the time out to tell them   what a good service they are providing.
PPS sorry!got a bit side tracked there in short i have found tiscali to be excellent,SO far anyway
cheers Andy
