I haven't downloaded the demo, so I can only judge from what I have heard from others. But I think I would agree with Sven, flightsim is not a game. And even if this isn't the finished product, I don't think that this part is going to change much. I think I'm going to stick to my FS9 a year or two. Unless Santa brings me a new state of the art computer.:P

I just did my first mission, which is the Intermediate mission. The landing at Julia International. It wasn't a very good landing, but I did get on the ground. A few months ago, I got the best graphics card available in the UK, and the guy who installed it also gave me more memory (if I somehow got my parents to pay lol) so I have now got a very powerful computer, and it probably could hold FSX, but the reason I'm telling you this is because don't feel too bad about graphics etc. because I have taken screenshots of that flight, and it's really no different. I'm not very impressed with FSX demo, because really, the grpahics aren't too good, but hopefully, the rest of the world in FSX will be alot better. Anyway, here's my screenshots:

It just allows you to fly around St Marten in the Caribbean and try a couple of the missions that will be included. It has a 30 minute time span so after you have been running the program for that long it closes down. Peresonally I think the water effects are fantastic, clouds are good, almost as good as active sky 6, ground environment isn't much different although I have heard that the demo has shiped with the 20m mesh and the final version will be a 1m mesh.

Well, can't try it before I'm back home at the end of the month.
But, I would just add my 2 cents to the -nagging- topic.

I see people complaining already, that this DEMO is not any better than actual FS9 with addons.... and water wets and fire burns, lalalalala.
It's obvious that it can't outstand FS9 with a shitload of high end addons.
Seen yet FSX with those addons ? No, you can only compare comparable things : compare FS9 "virgin" install on TNCM and FSX demo. Those who will tell me they prefear FS9, I won't believe much (excepting because of too old PC).

MS knows that addon makers can do outstanding things, and they prefear to create this FS not loosing time on default aircraft they know hardcore simmers like us won't use anyway (you do it in FS9 ? For liners ? Come on... stop kidding). And the dad who plays it for fun the sunday afternoon won't notice that "the flight dynamics are not very realistic during the V1 to V2 transition when the plane is at MTOW between 350 and 400 tons, on wet runways when gustings reach 15 knots, according to real life Boeing test pilots".
It was thought for addon developpers (after more than one year of surveys in the community : us), should be easier, faster, more flexible and powerful, to permit more realism. Now think about the DEMO, they may have put final meshing for the ground, environment, etc... in it, probably they thought that 2GO for a St Marteen's demo was a bit out of limits (wouldn't you ?). And obviously I expect more on LFPG or EGLL in scenery than on TNCM, so wait and see.

Now you say FS is becoming a nintendo game heh ? Ok, and going away from a real flight simulator ? How ? Because they added funny missions ? Because they added scenery that is not needed at FL360 ? What bunch of screwers those MS devs !
For the missions, there is a workaround i thought of : don't play them. For the scenery, there is one too, tune the options (whatever I don't think the boats will be loaded up in memory at FL360). What if you ask a VFR pilot ? Won't he tell you that it adds realism ?

"I expected more from Microsoft".... Comment after seeing something like a teaser demo.
They probably expect more from the community. If I was a dev of FS, I would be pissed really. They try to sell more FS ? Shame on them ! What do you think will happen if they sell only to hardcore simmers ? Not enough money, no more FS. You'll have to play (whoooops, fly on, it's not a game, is it ?) on Laminar Research's X-Plane. Good luck, it's very good, like Linux is, still you are using Windows, and FS.

P.S. : I'm not flaming, angry, at anyone, I'm just exposing my point of view and anyone is free to contest and argument it. I'm not a MS fan, but I like to be objective and fair.

Hi,

Does anyone try to install FSUIPC on it ?

If so, please write the result here.

Thanks.

@maabaa

Have you ever looked at price of the new fs?  And the dad who plays it for fun the sunday afternoon won't buy that.

What if you ask a VFR pilot ?

I myself realy like to fly VFR in real and in FS. But look at IVAO for example how many people are flying VFR?
not many!

I think at least 80% only buy the FS to fly IFR. 10% sometimes fly VFR and antoher 10% fly often VFR.

And to come back to the flight dynamics. The are all in all taken from the FS9 and they are absolutely incomparably with any aircrafts of that typ. I don't mean they are not 100% realistic. I think that not nessesarry. They have not so much incomment with the real world. And if I am right that "game" is called "Flight simulator".  And I myself think I can expect for an price of about 75€ (Germany) that they have changed something more than the graphic.

I think I will buy the new FS but I am not so happy about this new version. And because there is nothing better on the market.

Okay, I'll play along! Here's my opinion. I agree with both of you (Sven and Peirre-Francois) to a point and can see both sides of the argument.

Here are some comments observations:

1) To be honest, I think the demo version will be far from the finished product. I think the reason Microsoft released the demo was to quell the speculation and scaremongering that has engulfed the FS community that we will all have to buy new PC's to run it. I think they have done a good job of doing this.

2) I think Microsoft are doing a great job of bringing FSX up to a standard that most of us are used to with our heavily expanded copies of FS9. Many of us have spent a small fortune on add-ons’ like Active Sky, Ground Environment, FS Passengers, FS Nav, Numerous Pay ware Aircraft and the list goes on and on to be told most of them will require a paid upgrade or a replacement version for FSX. (Very few are saying they will offer a product upgrade for free or that their product is compatible) Our investment in FS9 is not merely the 50 or so Euros that the boxed product cost, it is hundreds if not thousands that have been spent improving the boxed version of FS9 and we will now have to start again from "almost" scratch. If FSX does not run these products, I will run both versions side by side until such a time that FSX far out performs FS9. (Lets face it, the deluxe version of FSX will only cost the same as a couple of decent FS9 add-ons’!)

3) There are many subtle changes in FSX that improve our entertainment which we have not seen yet. The inclusion of "Fly by Wire" controls to allow for more accurate simulation of modern aircraft controls such as modeling the use of "Laws" to govern control surfaces and thrust. (Something which simply can not be modeled correctly on FS9) This is just one of the many subtle changes.

I think MS have done a great thing by putting out the demo and banishing all the doom and gloom that has been banded about us all needing new hardware. Unfortunately they released a pre production version that was never properly Beta tested and so had a few bugs and didn't show us as much as we wanted to see. (They have to keep the big guns back for the launch!) All in all, I love the demo, it has wet my appetite just enough to keep me from spending a fortune on new PC components but has me sitting on the edge of my captains chair waiting for October! Keep up the good work MS!

Maabaa a very good post I agree, however I did expect more from MS regarding the initial screenshots that were released. Lets see if the developer would be pissed then.

If the difference in graphics is due to a difference between the beta and the final version, I will stand corrected.

I doubt it though, and believe me, I wish itll happen. I like flight simulation as any of the people here do.

Alex, you have to take the screen shots with a pinch of salt as many of them were rendered to show how FSX will look on DirectX 10 hardware. Remember when FSX was initially announced, Windows Vista and DX10 were scheduled to be launched at the same time.
