FS on laptops

Hey everybody!

I'm thinking of getting myself a laptop this christmas, or a tad later, and fit it up with Vista and FS X.

Do any of you fly FS on laptops, and if you do, does the performance change in any way? Is it a good idea?

Thanks for your replies;)

I had a laptop awhile ago. It worked perfectly, but the only problem is that I think (this is when I bought mine, so things might have changed) that the graphics card is integrated, and I couldn't get better quality from my add-ons, and it started getting slow because I hadn't get a very good graphics card, and it was integrated, so then I switched to the computer I have now, which is brilliant. I have at least over 8 big programs and they work fine but mine isn't a laptop, and it's got the best video card around, and it's very expensive because it can hold so much memory, but it would be a waste of space and money if you're only going to put FSX onto it, so I'd recomend to try to find a decent laptop, that hopefully hasn't got an integrated video card so you can update if you need too.

Im going to use it as a multi-use computer, so I will replace my old one with it. Its not like im only going to use FS on it. Another good use to it will be getting Wifi and being able to connect to my school's wifi connection which is.... like... bang! Quick as a bullet...

make sure you ask for a laptop that is built for gaming...for example has a good gfx card and good DDR. Another thing to look out for is the screen, make sure the visual quality is good, and make sure it isnt affected by light and the angle at which you view it. Some flat screens can only be viewed from one optimun angle, if you move your head to the right a bit, the colour and quality of the image changes...

On my laptop FS runs quite nicely, and thats on a crappy 64mb gfx card, all settings on med.

Hi,

Having a laptop for FS is not a good idea unless as mentioned above, you need to have a good graphics card inside your system. In spite of that I think, you should avoid to some extend, because laptops are can get overheated with prolonged playing as compared to desktops.

Ofcourse if you are in for short hops, laptops would do good.

Hello there,

as said previously, a good laptop could probably work OK.
I'm running FS on the best settings on a meagre Dell with only 512MB and 64MB video card and it clocks 25fps.

However, as mentioned in several threads, FSX needs something close to a supercomputer to work nicely.

Also, I get problems when trying to synchronise with my work's servers and drives but I managed to fix it after some tinkering.

Good luck, and let us know what you got and how it works.
