came across this article about a boeing rumour......797 supposedidly holding 1000 passengers......

What i think? A load of bollocks....i thought boeing developed the 787 because they thought that the market needed a smaller longer range plane that could land at many airports?

Basicly, i will believe it if boeing officially announce it... and at the moment i aint believing one bit of it ;)

I think that plane is just a vision. I remember I seen it in a Discovery document, and they said, that the wide body have a lot of disadvantages: it is very hard to make empty within a short time or it should be equipped only with doors on its side, and the pax far from the axis should have very few comfort because of larger bowing in the corners.

Anyway, you can download a lot of modified, fully-doubledecker 747s, called 797-1000 from FSPLANET. That design makes more sense, but looks ugly. :s

Well it sems like bulloc since Boeing is now devleoping the B-748
wich in the article is said to been closed in 2003.

I think this sounds like one of those things that some guy thought up in his sleep, planned it with Boeing, then found out it can't work.

It actually looks very similar to a design from years ago, something like the Supersonic Cruiser I think it was called. It never got anywhere and I'd have to say that the author of this article is either joking or badly informed given some of the comments. I wonder why the quotation at the end about a big leap forward isn't attributed to anyone...?? :%

I don't imagine anyone at Airbus is too worried (about this anyway ;D)

Impossible, but really nice...maybe in a smaller version can be prettier....something like a Crj-200 like that would be cool, but an other huge monster like the A380 no, please :]

Impossible... Not really. There have been military blended wing concepts since the late sixties, and the B2 (a Boeing co-design/manufacture, lest we forget) has been publicly flying since the first Gulf war.

While some of the science in the NewTechSpy article is questionable (50% efficiency improvements...) we can be certain that what with global warming and such, there is a strong desire within the aero industry to explore "extremes" in order to reduce the carbon footprint of commercial aircraft. Designs such as this may provide such a reduction.

But size-wise a smaller model would be nicer. :)

Altough such design would probly having problems to meet the 90sec evacution test with only half of the exits working as it would have multiple aisels.
