I just want to say, I like the idea of the name changes. I think it will make things quite a bit more professional in the forum in addition to the new rules :)

Hi pilots, I didn't understand a thing: can I maintain in my signature the daft punk's faces or they are under the category of " not related to the forum???" I reckon these changes were really necessary because the forum is the real center of our VA.
Safe landings,

Well now, good question Paolo.

They're both small, so yes, they fit into the new size limitations, but equally they're nothing to do with the VA/aviation, so yes, they're not related to the forum.

If my understanding of the new guidance is correct, you can keep them, but the preference would be you change them for either the "EHM AutoSig" or something related to the VA/aviation.

I would have no problems with such avatars (like the avatar of Paolo). They give you a personal touch :).

@Tim: Correct. I'm going to be using first names as entered into the pilot "account" on the main website, but there's nothing stopping you from putting your preferred "salutation" into your signature/sigtext.

I'm reasonably sure that Phil (Nutt) and Razza will continue to be referred to as such, despite their usernames changing to "EHM-XXXX Philip/Jonathan". :)

Rather than seeing this as a bad thing, it's an opportunity for enhanced friendship amongst the forum community...

Hi Guys, Sorry for the late start this morning! :) I was up till 3am finishing off the posting up of the rules and announcements etc.

@ Paolo, your signature does not infringe the rules as there are two small sigs within the size limits and they are side by side. It was discussed about the aviation theme and the use of only company sigs and avatars but we do not want to stiffle anybodies creative or personal flare, so they are fine!

@ Tim Sorry, the name changes were discussed and we decided that it will be uniform.... Also, sorry but the GIF in your sig is over sized. The limit is 40k, your gif is 69k and because of this we decided that animations were not allowed due to load times for the people that are still on dial up. My appologies.

@ Ben Thanks for the support..... Any chance you can knock 10 pixels off the height of your SIG! :p

We really weren't sure how this would be recieved, we hoped as is the case so far that everybody would see the benefit to the airline and the community. To all, many thanks!

I think Javier, that it is about 20px over the vertical limit. You could try condensing some of the lines of text into a single line.

Well, I'm going to check mine by grabbing a screen shot of a post of mine (this one, perhaps) and then "measuring" it in Paint Shop Pro. Given that the "signature space" is everything below the interrupted horizontal rule, my signature is not in order (those of you that know of British "propaganda" movies of the post-war era are permitted to use a poor German accent when reading that last fragment. And my humble apologies in advance to all our German pilots for that statement, but I know what British humour is like and how some peoples mind work.)

Guys, Just to give you an idea, one line of standard forum text is about 15 pixels high.

This is just a guide, but it is what we worked on when working the rules up.

The Signature section should be no more than 180 pixels high. This is the space between the dashed line above the signature and the solid line at the bottom of the signature. The Forum software automatically inserts a space of 1 line at the top of the section. (approx 15 pixels gone already) This would allow you to have 4 lines of text (60 Pixels) and the EHM signature Banner. (98 Pixels)

The reasoning behind this..... Well to be honest, topics become so long due to the fact that somebody types "Yes, I agree" in response to a forum post and then has 6 signature graphics and 6 lines of text and a blank space of 5 lines below their signature.... This was an actual Signature by the way. (When trawlling the forums, I found a member with this in their signature section) I also found this while I was moving house and was on Dial Up..... It took about 5 minutes to load the forum page!

Now, don't think we want to bash you over the head with rules, we just want people to use a little common sense and courtesy. Now for the name and shame section, and don't get me wrong, this is just for fun!

Signature Heights at 11:00 zulu on Sunday!
Mine: 156 Pixels
Murrays: 229 Pixels
Javier: 201 Pixels
Ben: 265 Pixels (Largest)
Iain:162 Pixels
Brian: 144 Pixels (Smallest)
Paolo: 190 Pixels

I hope this clears this section up a little. Again, don't think we are limiting your freedoms, we are just trying to add a little courtesy to the forums, a lot of people can get their signatures down to the correct size, just by removing the blank spaces!

EDIT* Sorry Brian, in answer to your question, this is the only officially made Sig graphic for EHM at the moment.... I will take it up with the art & design department and see how hard it would be to get some more!  :)

I just noticed, in Ben's post, he has a long avatar and big signature and just 2 lines of the message, is the length of the avatar contributing to his signature's size?(Big space at the bottom)

If so, a very long post would help to minimize that lol

Good point, I understand what you are saying Javier and will test it out now.... Maybe the Avatar does extend your Signature! Ben, in the mean time, please write more in your posts as Javier said! :P

EDIT** You are completely correct..... The signature section does get extended by a large company Avatar! Arghhhhhhhh LOL! I'll keep you posted on developments in this area and thanks for spotting my obvious blunder Javier ;)

Ok, thx Phil for the help, now I am gonna try to reduce the size of it, I understand completely the reason why the MT wants this and it is necessary for everyone ( I hate 6 lines signtaure long too :> ).
One more time I understand how much work does the MT put in EHM :8

Is there any way to change my forum user name myself? I only just joined the forum and set up my user name according to the PDF "Forum Requirements and Rules". There it's given as an example 'EHM2008-Christian' while most people here have it 'EHM-2008 Christian' which I'd prefer, too. Any chance to change that?

Thank you (and sorry for being a pain right from the beginning)

Christian,

As a new joiner, you'll be at the end of the first round of changes (c. 150 users to go in the first round...) so your username will be changed for you. Thanks for following the rules in the first instance, it makes setting it "correctly" very much easier.
