md17(c17)Horrible slow drawer
« on: November 07, 2006, 03:48:06 pm »
I downloaded the md 17 (cat6 cargo)and  i was wondering if anybody knows why it is so slow to draw its textures(?) in ?IE if i go from 2d to virtual to spot, there is a horrible delay as the planes textures draw.It dosnt seem to happen to other Euroharmony planes i use.
PS Can i use a category 7 aircraft for a category 6 cargo flight?
Sadly i have had to remove the md17.
Cant fly like that.
cheers Andy

Andy,

This can happen if the plane uses certain types of textures. This can normally be improved by converting the textures to DXT3 format which use less memory. To do that you need to download a program called DXTBmp which you can then open and resave all the plane's textures in, using the DXT3 format. They will then load quicker.

The progam is at:

Thanks Dominic.
Since my last post i have downloaded the UNHCR and new cargo livery of the MD17 and i noticed that when i selected this model from FS9 the plane in the review screen
didnt show this behaviour so its back in the hanger again.:)
Thanks for that texture info, very interesting.
Andy

Sadly, no. You can use any of the (correct division's) 6, 5 or 4 aircraft on any 6, 5 or 4 route, and similarly you can use any 1, 2 or 3 aircraft on any 1, 2 or 3 route. Class 7 is the only class which is confined to its own flights ;)

About the repaint issue, it is funny, because both versions are made in DXT3 format, that is a standard at me ;) Also I do not use MIPmapping, that is said to raise a bit the loading time, but I do not know. I think it has something to do with the memory management of your FS/Windows.

Sorry Robert, I assumed you must have used another format for some textures as I find the EHO 757 takes a while to load textures too... Maybe I need to declutter my hard drive more ;D
