Descent speed penalties question
« on: November 19, 2006, 06:58:32 pm »
Hello again
For my last three propilot flights i am receiving the same penalty 240 and that is for exceeding the maximum descent rate of 4500 fpm,but being aware of this i tried different descent speeds including Werner schotts for the BAE 146 and i am still getting the penalty.Any idea what sort of descent speeds i should try.I know that this can depend on all sorts of variables, but if you can give me an approx idea i would appreciate it.If it wasn't for this slip up i would have had no errors for my last three flights.
cheers Andy

Are you using autopilot VS mode? If so just set it to around 1500-2500 FPM and you should be alright.

Are you using the default panel or the one supplied for the BAe 146 in the fleet page??
If you are using the a default FS panel this can be the cause of the problem. I have encountred this myself with the A310.

Have you cheked if  there is a swithc between FPA(flight path angel) and FPM(feet per min) on the panel near the altimeter settings??
Like the ones on airbus where you set the decent angle instead of FPM????
This could also be the problem. If you set FPA and not FPM
Just an idea???

Althoug i don't know if BAe has this system.
But is on the A320 series A330/A340

Will have a look Christian but iam pretty sure there is no such switch.
Actually thats the first i ve heard of this FPA thing.
But this is all good stuff, just increases your knowledge of FS a little more.
PS the complex panel i was referring to is the one used on the EuroCargo 146(as an extra download)
cheers Andy
Will try the Embraer 170 next time and see if thats any different

Well the E-170works with both custom panel and the default panel.

And Andrew niether had i heard about FPA before i tried it the first time, having no clue what it was, and why the plane didn't do what I expected it to do.

The flight path angel allows you to select a certain climg or decent profile like 3,5degrees, very handsome to use if you need to make a approach at an certain dencent angle Like to EGLC or LOWI on the VOR/LOC approach. So you won't need to figure out wich FPM setting would be correct.

Just read the charts and put the angel in there:%
just make sure you start at the right altitude..... Tried that and not to recomend.

Hope you don't loose the interest for flying ProPilot, and good luck with the E-170

In order to assure a right timing for the descent and a controlled VS, I recommend to use the Descentometer Gauge by Glenn Copeland. It is very helpful and if you also download his SALS Gauge it will help also for landings in airports without an ILS.
You can download both gauges from AVSIM.
For those without panel building dexterity I also recommend to use them as separate windows so you can open them only when needed.
Cheers!

Good pilots keep their number of landings equal to their number of takeoffs. Takeoffs are optional but landings are Mandatory.
