The other strange thing
« on: December 18, 2006, 09:29:44 pm »
Hi folks,

after reading Karsten's post I decided to report another strange thing. It happened to me only 2 times so far, so I am not sure about ALL circumstances. Well, the known things are: PMDG-747 after landing... ;D

When I leave the runway and turn off Landing Lights, and Strobe (both with key command usually), I got a shouting horn for some seconds, then everything goes back to normal.

For the 1st time, I used PP, and I got immediately 2 messages: Engine 1&4 shutted down, so came the penalties for it ;) The other time I flew offline, and I could see on the EICAS the message: Generators 1&4 disconnected. Then the message disappeared after 2-3 seconds and it became quiet. I checked everything, and found the same as for the 1st time: engines were running, Generators were set, everything was fine ! Only me became nervous both time !

As I know, pilots shuts down Engines 1&4 after landing on the 747...can it be an automated feature, that does not work properly ??? I did flew the bird several times but I do not remember this bug before...I can only hope it will "Go away, and never come back !!!" ;D

hmm, are you sure that the key commands that you're using are also doing something else? Like PMDG has set a key command, and it's the same as the lights? I'm not sure whether this is possible, but it might just be the problem.

Well, it would be bad though. I think some other addons cause the problem...maybe ActiveSky. OR just some scenery bugs...I do not know. I will try to fly the bird more times and I will see ;)

I think I discovered the problem !!!

The main point in the background is the 747 fuel useage automation. In the last stage of the flight fuel remains only in the wings, and after it reaches same amount in the inner and outer wing tanks, it should be switched to direct feeding: inner engines from inner tanks, outer engines from outer tanks (although the FMC reports X-feed config error). This way at touchdown, both engines are fed from its own tank, and each tank has a low amount of fuel left.

The problem occurs when the fuel used in a wrong way, and one of the wing tanks became empty. When you get on the ground (probably below 20 kts) and FL is running, the engines for the empty tanks are stopped for a while, which is recorded by FL. Maybe it is a PMDG bug, I do not know...

It is very strange though, and if you are unlucky and made the outer wing tanks empty, then Engine 1&4 will stop for a while when leaving the runway. And Engine 1 stopping results an immediate Log End !

So take care, fellow PMDG 747 pilots ;)

In that case Robert doesn't opening the cross flow valves after touch down cure the problem? I must admit, I do not close the cross flow for landing but as soon as my reverse thrust is set on rollout, I open the overhead and start the APU, could you not open the cross flow at this time?
