Hi guys...

Flew the Boeing 747-400 from London Heathrow to Boston Logan Intl. The flight was 7hrs 12 mins long, and we landed 15 mins late due to  a strong headwind over Eastern Canada...

Thanks for Viewing and leave a comment...

Great photos mate!

I don't have words ... for me, a good FS2004 tunned with some scenery enhancements still can do miracles.

Regards and keep it up!

Hi guys,

Nice, FS2004: especially like the floating/hovering containercrane in picture #2...

Only MS can come up with something like that! ;D

But furtheron, as said, nice looking pics! Well done!

Best regards,
Stef

Razza,

Great shots, I missed this thread first time round but the sequence really shows off the Jumbo well. No's 4 & 5 are my faves - perfect touchdown shot with wing flex and the long shadows on the next one :P

@ Stef: I'm pretty sure that crane is supposed to be there - it's a floating one on pontoons to unload ships. Have a look at the base of the legs and you'll see what I mean. ;)

Hi Dominic,

Nope, can't agree: this is MS 'fooling around'.

Check out the below link. That is an example of what a so-called 'floating crane' looks like, which are mostly used for handling bulk-cargoes:

http://www.ravestein.nl/images/enpont8.jpg

The crane in the screenshot above looks to me as a standard container bridge-crane (haven't seen any other ones yet in MSFS), which to the best of my knowledge are never mounted on pontoons/barges (except perhaps when they are being shipped from where they are constructed to the location where they are being put to work). Wouldn't make sence to erect them on a barge as it would just slow down the loading/discharging process of container ships (in this case).

Should know what i'm saying: am working in the maritime industry for the past 15 years, first as nautical officer onboard, and since a few years now in the headoffice of a large german shipowner...

Doesn't change anything to the fact though that the screenshots above are nice. Love the PMDG 747...

Cheerio,
Stef

Stef,

I think we both may be right in fact ;D

The addon scenery for KBOS includes cranes and other details  - looking at the website for http://FS-Freeflow.com there have been clashes reported between the airport scenery and addon terrain mesh leading to these details no longer being on dry land as the ground beneath them has changed. Here's a quote from their Forum...

It appears that this is a result of Ultimate Terrain's enhanced coastlines, as the ships are in the water with just the default scenery, but once I've turned on UT's enhanced coastlines option, the ground appears under them.

In any case, I put together a quick exclude file to eliminate the beached ships, as well as a building that was partially in the water and a crane that was completely in the water. I'm attaching the file here for anyone who may need it. I've also included the .xml file in case Flying'sCool or Gridley need the exclude references for their redo of Boston, for compatibility with UT:USA. The included Readme.txt file includes the coordinates of the excluded items.

So the crane is supposed to be there but you're quite right Stef, it's not supposed to be floating ;)

Razza - what scenery/landclass & terrain do you use for KBOS? Have you go the latest version of George Grimshaw's scenery? He updated it quite recently...
