Believe us, if we could have offered more notice, we would have...

Unfortunately, matters are becoming untenable with BH and it's just far easier to "bite the bullet" and move.

Sorry Trevor,

I know its quick and we have not given much notice but let me give you a timeline...

Last Sunday...
Web Site went down (again) and numerous problems were experienced with current site. (Download problems, service suspended etc. etc.)

Monday...
At the EHM Staff meeting it was decided to go ahead with the server purchase ASAP instead of waiting to see out our current contract with BlueHost. Bruno got in touch with our new provider, POWERVPS and started the ball rolling by purchasing the new package.

Tuesday...
The new server was activated and the day was spent working with the Control Panel, installing stuff that is required by EHM and upgrading some of the standard software on the server.

Wednesday...
Migration tests were done by copying parts of the site and setting up the database as well as performing other tests to allow us to migrate and change the DNS.

Today...
Tests were completed and the task of "moving house" began. 21:00z All the developers agreed and the decision was taken to close down over the weekend to maximise the manpower we can throw at the change over during Saturday and Sunday.

That's it.

YOU CAN STILL FLY OVER THE WEEKEND. Use the Flight logger and save your PIREPS, then when the site comes back up, you can send them in.... Unfortunately ProPilot will have to be suspended for the weekend!

I must lastly say a big thanks to all of you who donated to enable this to happen... I hope that the improved service is appreciated by all and that we can now move on to making new stuff for you guys instead of sticking plasters on the broken stuff to keep it going! :)

Cheers,
Phil Nutt EHM 1703

Gardening!!!! Gardening!!!! At least we have the FA cup down here to keep us occupied! If I was you, I'd grab my rod and a case of beer, head for the nearest river and catch some fish! :) (Or maybe just catch a hangover!)

If everything goes well and you have a good internet service provider, then the website may work for most of the people next morning (so no more Maths ;))

Good luck with the migration.  It will be nice to have the download issues resolved.  Good decision to move on that sooner rather than later.

Well some of you may have noticed we are back already!!!!!! Our dedicated developers worked through the night to get the stuff done! :)

If you find any problem areas, please post them in this thread so we can try to resolve them.

My sincere thanks to Maarten, Murray and Bruno for performing the switch so quickly and painlessly! Now we are on the new server I hope you will all see a vast improvement in service, I must admit, it is considerably faster in load times alone! :)

EDIT* Problem number 1: Signature banners have gone! ;)

Wow, this was FAST!

This morning I intended to fly then post the PIREP later, I expected FLogger to complain about not finding the server, and I couldn't believe when it did find it!

Thanks and congrats to the whole team who made this possible.

Cheers
Andrei

Well, I guess you could have two domains for one website.

Glad EHM is online again so quickly! I was just going down to the lake when I saw it was back online:)

Yes and no :)

Both should work, but it might well be that the DNS change for euroharmony.com is taking a little longer than that for fly-euroharmony.com... (it *an* answer, not necessarily *the* answer)

Our website works with three domainnames:

fly-euroharmony.com
euroharmony.com
virtualairlines.eu

For me, all these domain names point to the new server now, but perhaps it takes a bit longer at your internet service provider. We'll continue using euroharmony.com the same way as we use fly-euroharmony.com, there's no reason to stop using it :)
