Hi!

Intel Pentium 4, 2.93 Ghz
1024 Mt RAM Memory
nVidia GeForce 6600GT graphic card
OS: Windows Vista
FS: FS2004
All "heavy" programs closed, such as anti-virus

That's my situation and the result is that, FPS is 5-10 with low settings. How is that possible? What's wrong with my computer, or what is the case?

Edit: No, FPS isn't limited to 10 or something like that..

The only thing I can suggest is you throw another 1mb of RAM in there if you can afford it.... Also the Nvidia Vista drivers aren't brilliant so there may be a few settings you need to play with there....

Basically, I think your problems may be extending from the fact you are running Vista.... Vista loves to use as much RAM as it can which may be stealing some from FS2004, I heard that the standard amount of RAM that vista uses is somewhere around 800mb.... this is only leaving 200mb of RAM free for your FS..... If you could borrow some that would be great so you could prove the point!

Yes it is true. Vista eats around 700-800MB, while my FS eats the same with some add-ons and ProjectAI...that is why I use XP instead.

Also FPS depends on the scenery and plane you use. You can see my specs, and if I sit into the default Cessna anywhere in the World with add-on or default scenery, I can get at least 20FPS...and both your CPU and GFx card is faster than mine.

Another option would be (also if you can afford) to install Windows XP on a separate partition of the HDD, and use the good'ol OS for FS2004

Basic rule with Vista:
You need to have 1Gb ram to run it and 2Gb to play with it :8

Yeah, this is the option I have been thinking about (not only because FS2004). But there's just a problem that I'm not such a hyper expert with these things. I'm bit scared to partitioning now, since when I did it while ago it confused my whole computer. But now I have 4 partitions in my 250Gt harddrive. (For Windows, for Softwares and Games, and 2 for a "holding place" to my stuff). Maybe if I make one more partition and try to install XP there. So would that work..? But how does the booting work after that..? Does Windows give me a simple change to choose either XP or Vista?


PS. Oh and the main point is now that I don't know where my XP's install CD is
PS2. With some Vista experience, I fully agree with Tommi (Btw, it's Finnish name.. Finn?)

Well, you do not need to to make another one. If you have Vista on the 1st, say C, you can reorder your stuff among the other partitions, and clean up the 2nd: D for XP. Then after the installation you can reorder the stuff you hold on the HDD

Quick word of warning though, XP will only be happy if it's near the physical "start" of a hard drive (ordinarily, you'd install XP first, then use the Vista installer to make a partition for Vista. Vista uses grub as it's boot manager, and grub is happy to boot Vista from wherever).

An obvious alternate solution, which I've used many times myself, is to get yourself a second hard drive and install XP on that.

I have the same graphics card as you.The same amount of Ram and a P4 2.80.With this setup and windows XP FS9 runs very well indeed.
I wonder sometimes why people bother with vista. Windows XP (as far as i am concerned is a fine operating system )i have no intention of buying vista unless i am forced to to run FSX  but even then i  will watch and learn from other peoples experiences and until FSX + VISTA+DX10+NEW COMPUTER+NEW GRAPHICS CARD+++++=BROKE and then only when i have  my soul  to sell will i perhaps bargain with the old nick and get the bloomin Vista.:]

Haha, I heard from a respected (by me) programmer there were rumors that MS is preparing a brand new OS in somewhen 2008...maybe...we simmers should wait for that and skip Vista

Well, not maybe in 2008 but perhaps before 2010 we could really have a brand new system.. But in my opinion, that won't happen..

And to that Vista - XP thing.. If I could borrow my friend's hard drive, put all of my files there and then do a complete formation to my hard disk and after that install XP there would that work Because I had some problems before, when I tried to install XP back after Vista.. Hmm.. Has Vista confused my computer somehow, or what..? :|

Yeah mate dont go for Vista unless you have a dual core with 2gb ram... Also i will wait at least for Vista's 2nd service pack to install it. Basically when you install a brand new microsoft OS right after realease, you're kinda being a beta-tester

Ya I agree with  you Mariano. Its kind of beta for those installing Vista and FSX. I can see there are number of issues that are croping up and I guess it has to do with playing games on Vista like FS which are also memory and processor hungry!!!
