I guess I was thrown off balance by the fact that the textures were DXT3 textures instead of DXT5, and I assumed that there would be a Twin Otter without the X at the end.
But no, you are right. No FS9 Twotter.

So I guess I'll just fine-polish the present paint, shoot a bunch of pictures, and then send it in to you, Dominic, for approval and making it available through the download section then, eh?

Well, Dominic, I added some pics to the mail I already sent (with the dds files) to your EHM mail address, so go ahead and have a critical look at them.

Meanwhile, some flying has been done too  ::)

Yesterday I flew leg 4, KCNY-KPVU.
I started at around 2000Z, but I had forgotten to lock the flight and to start the logger ... Duh   :-[
So I returned to KCNY (I was only 15 mins out when I realised there was something missing).

Ready for pushback (the first time)

Rear fuselage paint has improved already :)

As per request: the center console during cruise:
Throtlle = 77%
Props = 77%
Mixture = 99%
Alt 9500 (1028mb)
results in:
N1 = 93% (see picture)
V = 145 KIAS

After returning to KNCY, Trevor popped up on (or just aside ;) ) the apron. So after a couple of connection issues, we got to fly together, which is a lot more fun. Less scenery looking, though, but more chatting about all things, great and small...
Just past Price, ready to cross the first Rockies pass:
Trevor is reasonably close (some 2 to 4 nm), but we did not have actual visual contact except for during take-off and landing.
The inset shows a spot view from his plane towards mine. I am just passed those reddish rocks.

Lake Utah in sight. Provo is on the east bank of the lake, so after the pass only one more turn for a direct rwy36.

Both parked @ KPVU

Thanks, Trevor, for your pleasant company!

Taking up the scenery a bit. I love those mountains. Think I'll cross that valley off to the right, and take an easterly route for the next leg.
Better fire up Plan-G first, to see what's awaiting there...

See y'all up there!

So, I am planning to fly the last leg of the tour this afternoon. After finding the approach into Thompson Falls I thought I would have a go at a few circuits around Castlegar before pro-piloting this afternoon. Glad I did, I was using the Orion and it certainly is a challenging strip. Still fingers crossed!

Congrats on your Milestone, Dan!
I'm still stuck in Salmon-Lemhi myself, with only tomorrow as an option to fly out of there. I hope to join you in the celebrations on Wednesday, after my last leg... [fingers crossed].

You have fun out there, and keep some cold ones ready for me  ;D

Just to warn you all who've not yet flown the last leg (and I'm in the same boat) the US weather service for MSO (Missoula) is suggesting that today (now, in actual fact) might be the last time you'll be able to get out before Friday of next week due to snow (60% chance of snow tonight [Mountain Time] rising to 90% chance on Monday, then staying snowy and windy until Thursday/Friday)

Yeeeeha, I did it!!!

The last leg was very snowy but visibility was ok.
I´m a little bit sad, it´s over because it was great fun to fly the Otter again.

Mariano and me, that is.
We traveled together this evening. Take off was nice enough weather, Landing was a whole different story. More on that tomorrow, today I only have a take-off shot to share:
With Mariano taking off right after me.

As I said: more tomorrow (gotta get me some sleep too, you know ;))

So, this is tomorrow ;)

Mariano had an FS crash some 5 nm out from KTHM, so he had to re-fly the leg :(
Look like he came in just in time, the second attempt ... 23:56 on the last day ;D

Here we are, on the apron, ready for startup.

M. had some FS issues, and I had just loaded my FS-Passengers, so while he restarted his FS, I took a slooowww taxi to rwy 17 (At Provo, the pax did not like that they had to sit on board for 45 mins before taxi)

During my taxi, M. came back online, and started up quickly

Today was all about following rivers

And then it became hazy

Flying in formation is fun! TCAS is going WILD here :)

Some truely nice valley flying!

And then the weather really hit us...

So we climbed to a safer level, and thought up a strategy on how to get down to KTHM. I opted for the GPS in landscape mode, follow the river, and look vertically down until the ground would become visible.
The sensible thing to do would be to return and divert, but this is the last day for this leg, so... on we go!

Then things got a bit too hectic for screenshots ...
Luckily, I had the recorder on:
EHW leg07

Now I've got two days to repair my bird. Wednesday is the final leg for me.
See y'all up there!

Ouch! That's why we flair E-J ;)

Thompson Falls even has a decently long runway, you could have let it scrub speed a little longer... Just wait 'til you get to Castlegar

FYI, for METAR you should read MSO/KMSO for KTHM METAR; CYCG has it's own station.

I know, I know, landing nose gear first is not SOP :D
All those downdrafts ... brrr!!

TBH I was too late with my flare, indeed. Radio altimeter should read between 20 and 30 ft when you keep level, but this time I bounced up before I knew it. Nice that FSPassengers adds the blown tire with sparks, and later sirens to the event, but that was not recorded by FS recorder, so you guys don't get to see that in the movie.

Well, I was glad I even made it to the runway  ;). Playing back the recording with calm and clear weather, my route seems like I'm drunk and most of all: it seems very dangerous  :o. Almost flew into a stone wall three times!

Let's see what the last leg will bring...

Here are my shots and of the 7th leg flown at first with E-J, till my Fsim crashed, and then on my own a little bit later, as E-J said in the nick of time landing at 23.56!

I hope things go smoother tomorrow for the last leg...

Screenshots and short descriptions:

E-J takes off, while I hold short. I then did a STOL from this point, but honestly, this thing can climb with 200 feet of runway  :D

Climbing, turning right to avoid the mountain right in front of the air strip, leaving it behind to head north and to chase E-J.

Climbed to over 9,000 ft but then decided to drop back down to 6,500 because I couldn't see a thing.

The ground scenery, roads and rivers were remarkably accurate on this leg so I could follow the river as well as him in FSX.

Finally I realized I had been flying with flaps 10, and then I retracted them so I caught up with E-J for a bit of formation flying and TCAS alarms going off.

On approach, we were following the valleys to reach the airport, but soon enough the visibility became close to nothing at the very same time my GPWS said "twenty five hundred" so I went into panic mode, set the AP to 9,500 climbing at 1,500 fpm with full throttle.
After peeing my pants I wondered how would we land on this. E-J reported having some visibility below 3,500 but I had none at all.
Then my FS crashed and I went to have dinner and relax before I hit everything with a hammer  :P
Flew the leg offline and with the least amount of programs turned on. Fsim and FLogger... my net didn't go down... landed, submitted the PIREP, and then relaxed. Job done

See you all tomorrow, whoever is coming for the last leg online mega fly in event of the century  ;D

The final leg...

After a couple of lock-ups of my FS, I restarted my PC entirely, and then FSX would start as normal again. So some 45 minutes late (sorry Mariano) I arrived at the apron of Thomson Falls airport, KTHM.
Mariano was already sitting there, but a touch north in the trees for me, looking from FSX. I was on the edge of the rwy in his FS9 :)

We were "late" already, and although there were still 5 Twotters parked in KTHM, we soon decided to take off with just the two of us. No-one had locked a flight from KTHM yet, so off we went.

A bit of fog when we took off

But soon that cleared away,

Only to come back again ;)

I took a wrong turn, and had to climb over some hills to re-join Mariano, northbound from lake Pend Oreille

Turning south-west over Kootenay Lake. Mariano had by then had an FS crash, so he decided to wait for me at Castlegar. Meanwhile, Bruce (Thomas) arrived at CYCG, and David (Sifuntes) caught up with me from behind. So it was a busy ending after all :)

Negotiating the west arm was pretty easy in this kind of weather.

CYCG, however, lies hidden behind a mountain, and comes into view only on 2nm final when approaching from this side. So I came in a bit high, and had a difficult time descending in time. After a long flare, I managed to put her on the tarmac with some 200ft/min, so all in all not too bad. The Twotter can easily handle this.

Parked next to Mariano, with David landing in the background

And there we are, all three of us @ Castlegar

A big THANK YOU to the EHM staff for organising this event, and for introducing bush flying to the VA. I have enjoyed myself immensely, and can't wait for another one ;)
I would also like to thank all the fellow EHM-ers that I have had the pleasure of flying with. That makes the experience so much better!

Cheers,

Due to my work times I will have to fly the last leg to-day about 11:00z-12:00z
or tomorrow,(Saturday) but that would be a tad risky being the last day.
Hope to see someone on line.

My computer, my FSim, IVAO and my internet connection are all conspiring against me lately. I couldn't fly the last leg cos of an internet disconnection which meant my propilot flight wouldn't record, and then my FS crashed a couple of times, even when waiting at Castlegar doing nothing.
I think there might be something wrong with my FS9, so I might look into flying the last leg only in FSX (which I don't cos of performance issues)

Anyway, congrats to everyone who already has delivered their planes to their destinations, and congrats to EHM for organizing the event. I hadn't done any of these before and it was fun, I'll look to be more active in the future.
