WILD Division PP Event - progress
« on: October 16, 2010, 10:22:33 am »
Not sure I believe it, as otherwise the sky is as clear as anything, but X-Plane's real world weather thinks that it's chucking it down (heavy rain) in KELP right now.

UPDATE: Rain cleared just before Rincon, but was all the way from ground to 10,500ft (my cruise)! Funnily enough, ASE says it's not raining anywhere near El Paso. :)

PIREP: First leg all done. As easy as when I did a practice run last weekend (easier in fact, at least I had AP control this time). X-Plane pilots are warned to watch out for balloons operating near E98, and deer running across the strip when you land ;)

UPDATE: Meant to post this on Saturday, and in much higher res, but I've had no end of problems uploading to the Gallery. I'll update to a higher res version once I get home tonight.

Here's a photo I took while flying the first leg of the WILD Division PP Event to let everyone see (most of) my current simpit. Going left to right: my HP laptop running Plan-G, my 22" Samsung showing X-Plane (transparent cockpit so I can see the ground somewhat, can't find how to raise the seat like you can in FS), and finally (one of) my 19" LG's which is running FLv4 (the version prior to the one you lucky people all now have access to). Now vertically down from my 22", my GoFlight panels (various controls mapped), my FDS MCP (so I can control the AP), and my yoke, with me all out of focus ;D

What's not visible from this shot, off to my right is my GoFlight throttle, my second 19" LG (the pair of them comprise my PFD when flying heavy iron, I was running Chrome on it when the shot was taken) and my FDS CDU (which was off entirely, as it was not needed :)).

Took me about 83 minutes, but that was flying low following the valleys ;D

Bring on leg 2

Hi

Just noticed something strange, I completed the first leg yesterday and landed successfully with no penalties but I am now showing a 50 point penalty in the pro pilot summary page but not on My Flights history.  Any ideas ?

Using FL4 Jonathan? That's not a penalty, that's a bonus, just the website doesn't understand that (and it'd be a tough to make it know the difference).

Since those of you that weren't part of the private beta won't know this yet: in FLv4 (as it exists in the public beta), when you complete a PP flight sucessfully, you score 50 points (added directly to your FAC). If you crash (and only if you crash) you get 0 points added to your FAC.

Hi Murray,

Nope, I was using the old flogger, but any bonus is gratefully received!

How bizarre... Best I can remember (I was in there not that long ago) there are no penalties that "cost" 50... I'll just go and check again. It's impossible that old FLogger is getting the new FLogger complete PP flight bonus.

Nice pictures Luis, particularly the second one - the scenery looks very realistic and shows off our new plane brilliantly. I'll post some of my own as soon as I've flown the first leg ;)

(*BUMP* finally managed to upload the photo I took on the first leg, don't ask...)

Very nice pictures Luis. Is that default or add-on scenery there? I hope to have some screen shots of my own once I get a little more settled in X-Plane.

Here's a small impression of my first leg :)

Take off rwy 26L KELP

Mid Valley in sight!

On blocks:

As you can see, most of the paint is already slapped on in more or less the right place. It's those last 20% that make the work, eh?
Well, at least I now know which parts of the paintkit to paint hehehe...

Lovely shots there E-J and I can see that Aerosoft Twotter paintjob is coming along really well ;)

Here's a couple of my own FS9 pictures for the first leg:-

Great shots all around!

Yesterday afternoon, Trevor (EHM-1829) and I (EHM-2155) met up in KELP on IVAO, and got it under way to fly our first flight together.

It got off to a rough start since I didn't remember much about flying online, luckily everything got sorted out in time to find out one of my engines would not start up. That set us back 10 minutes as I looked for the cause, which I didn't find, so I reloaded the plane and it worked. Both engines running we taxied and took off.
As I have nearly no experience flying VFR, I suggested we flew to the TCS and then ONM VORs, ran smoothly, seen some good sights although most of it being a desert.
Nearing landing, Trevor went in first while I held at about 20 miles away, above WUBBY, as his first attempt was thwarted by some throttle control problems. On his second run he reported having to cut off the engines totally to get the Otter to come down :D
Soon after I turned in to the airfield and with a semi foggy visual on it, went in over the trees almost hitting several of them on my way. I came down like a meteor and didn't know when I had touched down because the plane sits so high up and the runway is so thin, it's tricky. I am fairly sure my front wheel touched down before the other two. I need some practice  ;D
After landing, the worst part of the flight was the fact Trevor's FLogger said it didn't get enough information to submit the flight. This might have been caused by him shutting his engines down mid flight? Rotten luck there as he will have to fly the leg again.

All in all it was a really fun experience.
The next leg is friday and if anyone else wants to join us in IVAO, they're very welcome.

Also, it was a good first experience with the new Flight Logger... worked perfectly.

Here are the photos:

Sitting on the tarmac doing our pre-flight checks, and taxi:

Trying to do some formation flying, I got a bit throttle happy and left Trevor behind for a while.

But eventually he caught up

Trevor starts his descent towards E98.

Finally sitting on the tarmac

Here's the flight map:

I left about an hour later than you two. Saw you online, but you were 144nm away from KELP already, so I was not going to catch up!
Great shots, and a nice repetitive holding pattern for someone who claims to be a bit rusty when it comes to flying  8)

That'd be something for Andrei to get involved in to fix Trevor, but as a workaround I've removed your travelling mode status in the DB, so you should be good to continue as normal.
