NG Website switchover planned Thursday 7/4/2011
« on: April 04, 2011, 11:11:53 am »
Greetings pilots.

Our intention (barring any serious bugs or issues turning up between now and then) is to migrate over to our NG Website this coming Thursday (07/04/2011).

We have selected a weekday to attempt to minimise disruption, as in order to make the switchover we will need to take the existing site offline, work some magic behind the scenes and then power up the new site.

Please do not fly on flogger for the VA after 1pm BST / 12pm zulu on this day (Thursday 7/4/2011) until we announce we are back up, instead, hold your flights for manual pirep submission after the switchover

We have been squashing bugs that have cropped up over the past few weeks, but expect that for a period after the changeover that a larger group of users will uncover more issues that have been hiding well.

Once the changeover has occurred, the beta testing forum will be opened up so please post any issues in there (having read the guidelines for helpful information to include).

I post up the quick start guide with this post so you can read up, get a head start on and a teaser of the new site.

Just a quick "keeping you all in the loop" update. We're starting the hard work tonight, as we have a huge backup to download, and then we'll have a backup of all our databases to create and download first thing tomorrow (and then a final backup of the important database just before we carry out the switch-over tomorrow), so please be aware that the whole site (/site and here in the forum) are likely to be a little bit slower while all these works are being completed.

We know you're going to like the new site, it's significantly faster than the old site, and an important stepping stone to much bigger and better things for the VA.
