Contrails lost !?
« on: December 27, 2004, 06:13:29 pm »
Hiyah all.
Recently upgraded my graphic-card from gforce fx 5600 to ATI Radeon 9600 XT with great improvents exept for the  matter that I don`t have the contrails-effect above fl 270 anymore.  Graphic-bars are at almost full.  Had less eye-candy added to earlier card, but yet had contrails visible.
Any clues what`s wrong?  Could it be my new card dosn`t support that effect???
DirectX 9b installed...but not yet the very latest drivers for the ATI-card...could that be the reason?  Thou card-drivers are almost the latest.

Try to set the weather totally different. Also, climb to a higher altitude to see if they appear there.

A lot of people say that contrails appear above FL270, but it all depends on the weather conditions. A 'good' mixture between temperature, dewpoint and EGT cause contrails. (contrails are actually just clouds)

You might have to re-install the contrial fx files as the may be corrupt.

Tim..thanx for the tips, but if that file was corrupted....would i really see contrails from ai-planes?  When above fl270 or so, I actually see other planes contrails, but not my own   :|

Problem solved !
Last nite i had contrails back visible again. Dunno how or why it was lost, but it doesn`t matter now.  Must have been caused by weather conditions.

Contrails are the trails left behind jet liners flying at high altitudes. Caused by hot air from the engines being cooled by the cold air at that height.

And as Maarten says, they are just clouds!;)

True, the difference in temperature between the exhaust gas and the outside air temperature (OAT) is that big that the air behind the aircraft condensates. This causes clouds behind the engines which are called 'contrails'

In FS2002, weather does not matter at all, contrails are always visible above FL300.
