If you go search the news you come across an interesting story about Northwest flight 33 which was delayed 18 hours in Moses Lake, WA. The flight departed roughly on time from AMS bound for Seattle but upon arrival in Seattle found it too foggy to land. After running low on fuel and encountering a mechanical error, the plane was diverted to Moses Lake on the other side of the Cascade Mountains. Unfortunately, Moses Lake was not equipped to receive international flights so no one could get off the aircraft. After the fog had cleared in Seattle, the plane was just waiting on a repair crew to fly in from Minnesota. Unfortunately, the repair crew was delayed due to technical difficulties. After spending 18 hours sitting on the ground in Moses Lake, the passengers were cleared to get off the plane into a secured terminal. The plane eventually completed it's flight to Seattle where several passengers were taken to the hospital. During that 18 hours that plane ran out of food, and the toilets broke. Somewhat ironically I just finished a flight to Seattle from AMS the day before I left for Calgary and a Northwest flight 33, DC-10-30 flew the entire flight a few thousand feet below me... (PAI is more realistic than I had guessed), I will post pics in the screenies forum when I get back home. I am happy to say that my flight from AMS arrived about half an hour early.
