Historic Dutch East Indies Route Event - Charts
« on: December 16, 2009, 08:38:05 pm »
Hi all!

Just started the Historic Dutch East Indies Route Event, and in preparation for the upcoming legs, I started collecting charts. Now I thought I would open a new topic on this, so that we can all share where we found our "difficult to find" charts.

I for one got stuck at Gaza, LVGZ.
Anyone got a hold of those charts? I would love to have a link ;)

Sorry E-J,

Had a good look around on the Net and I can't find any charts for Gaza - maybe because it's non-operational?

OK, thanks Dom!

An IFR approach without charts, ehh?
I'll just make one up, like:
FP ends at VOR ARISH (ARH, 113.6),

"STAR"
Over ARH hold / descend to 6000 (define a nice holding pattern yourself...)
Track outbound ARH rad 091 15nm to int EGORA (HEGR) while desc to 3000
Left hdg 053 to intercept ILS RWY01 (008 degrees) 108.90 at 2500ft

I call this STAR ERIC1G :)

Or do an NDB approach for a visual landing rwy19, using RFH (380.00) 5nm from field at hdg 008
Or the same, but utilizing VOR DME GZA (at field; GPS fix DEKEL) 113.35

rwy hdg 008/188
rwy length 10775ft / 3278m
airport elevation 318 ft

That should be enough info to get her safely on the ground ;)

Thanks, Dominic!

For anyone who likes to have a printed piece of paper on the flightdeck: download and print this one:

I changed ARH-EGORA to 89 degrees, 16nm, because the 91 degrees course does not really get you there, as you can see in the picture ;)

Flying into Irak has its own set of chalenges:
http://ramcc.dtic.mil/forms/iraq_aip_edition_29.pdf

And, apart from that military instruction, the ARE charts:

Hi guys,

Just to let you know I'm "back in business": this time I just entered ALL remaining legs so there should be no more surprises. also, should one still happen, I will bump into it myself so it won't remain unnoticed... or unsolved.

Charts? Nah, I'm still flying the old fashioned way, by looking at the landscape. These legs along the shores are easy to do so, the most difficult will be to cross India. But I have a secret weapon for that too  8)

Best luck to all

Andrei

Good for you, Andrei!
So, one more click on the "update" button in Flogger, and we're all set eh? Great!

VFR across India? Been there, done that (http://forum.ivao.aero/index.php/topic,104112.0.html) ;D

See you up there!

Nice report E-J, but now we'll cross India further south, that is over flat terrain, so VFR navigation will be tougher (if one does not use map/GPS/other, which I don't). However I did it once so I trust my good old secret weapon :)

Well, you got me curious ...  :D
For this tour, I'll stick to the needles though ;)

I have been looking ahead a bit, to see if I would encounter any difficulties in obtaining charts for the next few legs. I noticed that Konarak (OIZC) is in Iran, instead of Iraq, as the route table on the events page says. Or at least the charts are published by the Iranian AIS http://ais.airport.ir/HomePage.aspx?TabID=7212&Site=ais.airport&Lang=en-US
Flying around, looking for it in Iraq would give you a nice VFR challenge, eh?

And Pakistan, OPSF, is a challenge of an other order too. Try to find charts for that one ... :-X

Anybody found any charts for OPSF (SHAREA FAISAL) yet?

I guess it will have to be a visual approach, eh?

For those of you that are perhaps looking for it:
VYYY (Yangon, Myanmar) charts can be found at http://www.ais.gov.mm/

Haven't been able to locate too many charts (only parking and AD layout) for Bankok yet, so if anybody has some tips ... ?

For Alor Star WMKA Malaysia:
http://aip.dca.gov.my/

And our new Hub Singapore WSSS
http://www.caas.gov.sg/caas/en/index.html
But that one was already known by every EHMer, of cause ;)

Anybody got charts for WIHH (WIIH in FS9)?
I got WIII charts from http://id.ivao.aero/, but that is for Soekarno International. They don't have WIHH charts there...

Any help would be appreciated ...
