just to make everyone jelous

It took me almost 2 hours to get it off the ground btw. I started with a cold and dark cockpit. It took me almost 1 hour to get the navigation working. The trick was you need to initialize the system so it knows where it is. After turning the button (took me 50 min to find the button) you need to wait 10 min before it is finished...

Amyhow as you can see it is in the air and on it's way to KPHL.

Ah, they've done proper FMC POS INIT... that's good to know, if ever I buy it.

"Quick" POS INIT is 10 minutes, a full POS INIT reset is 45 minutes! Hehehehe :)

right I'm talking about the IRS system here. You need to feed it with the correct coordinates via the FMC however. Anyhow I still don't understand it all. Too many buttons;D

If I'm right, if you want to position your IRS, you need to select all three IRS knobs to Nav (if they have three) you can then wait 10 mins until it complete or you can go to your FMS and and push Init Ref, and then put the ICAO code for the airport you are at.

But knowing me, I'm on about something totally differn't.

When I type EHAM as destination airport in the FMC it tells me KAG not found. Anyone knows what this means?

so here is what ben was talking abuot, moving the seats from this position...

to...

and if you think thats good, check out the detail when you put a mouse over.....before there is ample detail but PMDG being PMDG had to make it better....

with a click and mouse over on the cans...

hehehehe....yeah, i laughed aswell
And if you've ever wondered why they are called Precision Manual, look at this...

nice of detail in the v-cabin

Total guess... do a full update of the FMC with the most recent AIRAC cycle from the PMDG site, the NavData.at site and Terry Yingling's site..

Quoting a post of mine about the PMDG 737:

Quote
I think it needs to be re-iterated for all newer PMDG 737 owners (and probably some of us that have had it for a while):

The PMDG FMC AIRAC cycle updates come in two parts;
(NOTE: urls point to the pages hosting the correct downloads, not the downloads themselves)

To apply a complete AIRAC cycle update to the PMDG FMC, download the update zip files (for the same AIRAC cycle! 0505 is current at the time of writing...). Install the Airway update first (using the navdata installer, so click "Next" lots), then apply the Procedures update over the top of the Airway update (manual install, unfortunately).

While the Airway updates contain some procedures, it's not very many. The Procedures updates do all the hard work in that respect.

Finally, Terry has a habit of applying "fixes" to his Procedure updates mid-cycle, so if your are having problems with procedures on your FMC, download a new copy of the Procedures update (and apply it, o' course) and test with the new data before panicking...

All that assumes that PMDG haven't changed data formats between the 737 and 747...

Ok, got the PMDG.
My personal opinion about it...
It's a very nice addon, that's true.

I'm disappointed by the sound, but I just saw that PMDG recommended some volume settings. I'll check it another time with it applied before saying it's not as good as it should be.

The plane itself : flight model is really good, amazing wingflex, you can feel its weight, the behavior is highly realistic ! Good job PMDG !
Nothing to say for the moment.

The systems :
Good job, didn't have the time to test the failures though.
No surprise, being used to 744 PS1 it took me 20 mins to make it ready from cold and dark cockpit, for a test flight. I felt at home !
FMC is fine, IRS is acting realistically (but it seems it's a bit quicker that it should, didn't test both alignment times though - from ALIGN and from OFF).

Visual model... What to say. Is there anything to say ? really ?
Love the 2D cockpit and its lighting.

Way to go, PMDG.

Digging up an old topic here, but I need to correct my own post (I got it wrong... I'm man enough to admit it)

EDIT: I even got this last post wrong - now correct.

For the 737 Smiths FMC/CDU, a FULL ALIGN takes 10 minutes (OFF->ALIGN->NAV, enter POS, then wait)

A HIGH LAT ALIGN is 17 minutes (OFF->ALIGN, enter POS, wait 17 minutes, ALIGN->NAV) gives the computers more time to measure true North due to the speed of the earth's rotation at extreme latitudes.

Then there's the QUICK ALIGN (NAV->ALIGN, enter POS, ALIGN->NAV) which just compares where you say you are with where the IRS's say you are.

Finally, there's the 30 second ABBREVIATED QUICK ALIGN (NAV->ALIGN->NAV) which leaves the position unchanged, and just starts from where it stopped.

a question over here, does the plane fly with the nose pointing up at cruse altitude (around FL350 etc)

the meljet version does and i'm wondering if that's realistic...if not could someone suggest some chances to the air file to correct that?

(btw sorry for digging up this old topic, but it was the most suitable one i could find)
