The Dakar PP Event returns!

After a long break, the Dakar Rally ProPilot Event returns to EHM! This summer we will follow the route of the 2014 Dakar Rally around Argentina, Bolivia and Chile - we are flying the route six months ahead of the rally racers so that pilots will have to cope with the winter weather in the southern hemisphere! That way, we're more on a par with the challenges faced by drivers and motorbike riders in the real world Rally ;)



To join in, just click on the banner of the front page here and sign up on the Event page. An Event B1900D aircraft will be automatically created for you so all you'll need to do is get yourself to Rosario (SAAR) in time for the first leg which opens on 5th July.

Thanks EHM! first time for me DAKAR  ;D hope to finish and obtain my award this time ;)

I'm ready to start and hope to see many, many EHM fellows by IVAO  :)

Thanks David, we've already got 9 pilots signed up in the first 12 hours so there's a good chance of some group flights ;)

To whet your appetites for the Dakar Event, here's an interesting LINK which explains some of the history of the real world rally with some great videos and photos too.

Obviously we want to avoid having as many crashes as you can see in the videos  ;D

If you would like to fly all the way to the Event's start from our nearest Hub in a B1900D (to practice your technique ahead of the main event!) there is now a Class 1 route available for you to fly (in ProPilot or normal flight) travelling via Kingston, Jamaica; Quito, Ecuador; La Paz, Bolivia; then arriving in Rosario , Argentina:-



A line of shiny new Beechcraft planes is waiting on the ramp at Atlanta for those brave enough to take on this extra challenge ahead of the Rally ;)

Hi Dominic, what a good idea was thinking along the same line but could not get a route from the timetable, so now l am trying to get some time together to fly my first atlantic crossing in PP from LSZH to KATL have got most of the route planned, just the US side to do to get to KATL from the entry point. I just flew the first leg of the journey from KATL to the starting point of the Dakar Event.  I have been flying big commercial jets for too long!  Great to be back in the little PMDG again :)

Only a couple of days left until the Event starts - don't forget to plan how you're getting to Rosario to start the route - either flying there or requesting a deadhead ;)

And if any of you are planning to fly the first leg online as a group flight, feel free to suggest times and network here :)

That was exactly what I was planning to do, Dom :)

My schedule is simple: I can fly on Tuesdays or Wednesdays only (other obligations rest of the week, and it's the one day OR the other). I prefer to get on line at around 1800Z, departing within half an hour. All this can be one hour later, but this is my preference at least. As I only have an IVAO account, that will be my network of choice ;)

So: I plan to start SAAR-SAOU on Tuesday the 9th, 1800Z, on IVAO. Anyone that wants to join is more than welcome.

No possible to join you and Peter  :( besides I'll try to fly this leg Friday 05, Saturday 06 or Sunday 07 around 1900 zulu by IVAO or if someone like to fly by VATSIM I'm able to do it too ;)

Hi to the Dakar group pilots,

David and Peter, I read your messages and I'm sure we will organize again our on line flying group ;) with Trevor and E-J and more.... I realized that I was sitting in EGLL and just asked for a deadhead to SAAR. Hope Dom or E-J can accelerate it so I may fly the first leg with you David over the week end....If not I'll try to make it with Peter on Tuesday next:) until we plan the future legs as we did for the trader event.
I'll be desperately checking the site to find out for the deadheading!

It looks like you got the last seat on a Concorde bound for Rosario  ;D

Check your PP location and if necessary log out then back into the site - you should be ready for the Dakar now ;)

Merci Concor'Dom you're on time for tomorrow Gian ;D / Saturday 06 1900 zulu for our first leg (SAAR Rosario   - SAOU San Luis) by IVAO or VATSIM, because Sunday right now is to complicate for me, say me if this is OK, if not, see you and the other PP Dakar fellows for the second leg with the Peter's Doodle ;)

Hi David, Thanks to Dom, I'm now in Rosario:) and ready to start our first leg to-morrow. Normally I should make it for 19.00Z (ie 21.00 for us). See you then. If unable, I'll let you know.

It took me a lot of effort to get things ready for our next tour, but finally with the help of Andrei, I succeeded in getting FL running properly. So now I'm on my way to Rosario from La Paz with a fully equiped Beechcraft. Still a few days untill next Tuesday to let the mecanics make the plane completely ready.

After flying the first leg I will put a Doodlelink on this forum to schedule for the second one! Hopefully a lot of you will join us online on IVAO!

And.. Gian and David: have a nice flight this evening and David... take the lead! ;)

Gian for tonight my flight-plan is this : SAAR DCT TRC W10 MORRO DCT SAOU. Almost 1h12' with the Beech1900-D

See you around 1900 zulu @ Rosario and I think by IVAO ;)
