@ E-J - Wow! You were simming in the days of FS95? That's cool :) I didn't start real simmming until FS2002, although I did have Psion Flight Simulator on my ZX Spectrum back in the mid-80's, but that wasn't anything but a simple game as I recall. I love the B1900D too - such a lovely plane to fly.

@ David - great route - the Zurich to Sion route and back is so enjoyable, good choice!

Anyone else want to share their start at EHM?

I don't specifically remember my first flight, but my first flights (multiple) all were with the sim version that came before MSFS98. A wireframe "scenery" of the Chicago area, always taking off from Meigs field and crashing into the high rise buildings off to the left. With my knowledge today, I know why that happened and what to do to prevent that, but at the time I was just pressing buttons to see what reaction I would get out of the default C172.
By the time FS98 came out, I had a basic grasp of what the concept of flying was all about, and then things really "took off", so to say.
I even had a copy of FS98 installed at work so I could practice during lunch time (and slightly beyond  ::) ).
I joined EHM on 12/12/2008 with a flight from EHAM to EHGG in the Sukhoi 80. I flew that plane for quite some flights, because I got used to it rather quickly.
My favourite plane ever in the fleet is probably the Beechcraft 1900D, especially in the Croisière Noire livery. Easy to handle, good range and speed, versatile, even usable on unpaved strips... awesome!

Hi again Bruce,

I’ve just found an article on Flightsim.com that may be of use to you:-

I hope it helps :)

Hi Bruce,
I’m sorry to say I can’t offer any useful advice on that front as I’m doing my flying on an old Windows 7 laptop I bought from my mother-in-law! Old but it works well enough for FS2004 :)

I have found lots of good advice on the Forums at Flightsim.com and Avsim over the years. If you search there, you may well find that someone has posted a solution.

Good luck!

Hello,  Dominic, l notice from your last post you are using FS2004, are you using it on Windows 10 ?,
Like you l have a lot invested in fs2004, l have used it on XP and W 7 with no problem's,  in May l upgraded to W10 and so far have not been able to get anything to load, tried it in MS games folder and out of it in a special  made folder, on my C drive,
Just wondered if you are on W10 and how you managed to get it to work , still think it is more stable than fSx , best regards Bruce EHM-2131

I used to fly the PMDG 737-800 on FSX, and made an EHM livery for that one. I am planning to purchase the MSFS2020 version, because it was definitely an "as real as it gets" plane. I just love the attention to detail and the realism.

Having said that, my heart lies with General Aviation planes. I am currently hooked on the G1000 version of the MSFS Cessna C208B Caravan, mostly because it has systems comparable with my real life airplane (a G500 Aquila A210), plus an autopilot.

When I "grow out of" the A210, I hope to progress towards a Diamond DA-40 (G1000, with autopilot of course), which has been my dream airplane since I started out on my real life flying journey in 2012.

I'd like to know what your favourite aircraft is out of our extensive fleet, and why that plane?

For me, it's the Boeing 737-400, one of our Museum planes:-

I love the 737 series in general, but I particularly enjoy flying the 737-400 because the first really impressive payware aircraft I bought was the FS2002 Dreamfleet Boeing 737-400, and I spent hours learning everything I could about it from the manual. It was such a step forward from the default planes, and getting to grips with the FMC was a delightful challenge :)

I'm using the Wilco 737 PIC panel merged with the EHO 734 model now, which is great fun and reminds me of my early days here at EHM when the Version 3 livery was the new look ;)

When I get some time, I'm going to try and repaint the Wilco 734 model with the EHM V3 livery, but that's for another time. For now, I'm happy just to enjoy some flights in this beautiful Museum piece  8)

So, what do you each enjoy flying, and what makes it special? Share your thoughts here  :)

I'm glad to hear you're getting much better frame rates now Bruce - nothing quite as frustrating as Flightsim with the stutters!

Ironically I'm back flying with FS2004 - I never really took to FSX and I have so many addons for FS9 that I went straight back to it after returning to simming recently :) I know the visuals would be better with a more modern platform, but I still really enjoy flying in my old familiar aircraft, like the Wilco 737 PIC and Flight1 ATR-72...

Thanks for sharing your first flight Bruce :) Anybody else want to join in?
