Since entering service in 1990 until the end of production, 200 of McDonnell Douglas most advanced wide-cabin trijets have been delivered to customers around the world. Although outwardly similar to the DC-10, it is larger and features advanced aerodynamics, propulsion, aircraft systems, cockpit systems, and interior design. Variations of the basic model include the MD11-M, a mixed cargopassenger version, the MD-11ER an extended-range version for +400 miles range, and the MD-11F freighter.

Although it was a very modern and capable jetliner it fell victim to the development of more fuel efficient, long range twin engined aircraft so Boeing stopped production in 2001, soon after it took over McDonnell Douglas.

The MD-11 is now used mainly as a freighter or long range charter carrier by many operators, such as EuroHolidays. The aircraft was made by iFDG in Gmax.
